Lady Claw was visiting Glasgow with hubby Gary and had arranged to meet up with the lovely Madasahatstand and decided to throw open the invite to any Blondites who would be in Glasgow for the night.

The plan was to meet in Stavka, a Russian themed bar quite near the Stanley Casino, have a meal and a few drinks and then take part in the £10 re-buy at the Casino.

So it was that the following got together on Friday the 13th in Glasgow:

Madasahatstand, Claw, Geothesarge, B/Fscousinkev, Swordpoker, Rod Paradise, Lazaroonie and Claw’s hubby Gary:

We all met up around 7pm and had a table booked so took our seats and started to peruse the menu which was pleasingly surprising despite the lack of boiled cabbage dishes. In fact it was a general menu with the occasional Russian reference. For example the Pizza’s were all named after former Russian Presidents, well known names like Brezhnev, Krushchev, Gorbachev and that well known former leader Spicy Beef??? WTF was that about, it did make us giggle though.

The restaurant itself is laid out in the style of an old style Russian train dining carriage and with the clever use of mirrors gives the effect of sitting in a long dining carriage.

We settled down and ordered the food with the usual mix of Pizza, Fish and Chips and Mads settling for the delicacy of Macaroni Cheese with lashings of Tomato Ketchup.

After eating, we met up with Rod and Laz in the bar for a few drinks before we all made our way to the Casino for the night’s game. Pleasantly surprised when one of the first we meet was our Dutch friend Boldie, an entertaining guy with a mountain of poker related knowledge.

Blondes also present on the night were Scotlandstu and double up, we took our seats and proceeded to shuffle up and deal:

For myself the game passed quite slowly with few decent hands and little room to manoeuvre due to the nature of the rebuy meaning that most bets were being called or raised. We reached the end of the rebuy period and I was average chips on 4k, as was young Kevin and as we spoke his tale was much the same, no real hands and no room to move. All this would soon change for Kev after the break.

About 40 minutes after the break I looked over to see Kev sitting with a fair amount of chips and was more than likely the chip leader, a quick thumbs up and it was back to the grind of trying to make the best from not too many good cards. We eventually broke to 3 tables whereupon I was moved to the table that had Mads and Claw sitting there. On arriving at the table I announced that I had been moved there as the pacifier as they had been the victim earlier of a not so pleasant player. Laz’s thread “I hate poker” explains all. For the short while I was there we had a good bit of banter and I gave my thanks to the table on having my JJ busted.

It wasn’t too long after this that we were down to the final table with the Blondes being well represented with Rod, Mads and Kev.

The final table was played in a great spirit with chips passing to and fro. Rod finally succumbed and went out in 6th place for £160 with Mads following in 5th for a nice £190.

Kev stuck in and was deservedly rewarded with a 2nd place and the tidy sum of £425. Well played young man, and a very good night for the Blondes.

It had got close to 4:00 am and we all began to bid farewell, As the 1st train to Edinburgh was just after 6am I had decided not to waste money on accommodation and had decided to stay at the bar for a wee while then take a slow walk to the station, no work and a day in bed for a change on a Saturday.

Rod and Swordpoker decided to stay with me and after a few extra sherbets we walked along to Queen Street station where we said our goodbyes. Many thanks guys for your kindness and the stories.

All in all, a great night amongst some great people and I am encouraged to now make every effort, where possible, to get to any get- togethers, small or large, of Blondites.  Newcastle on Friday night maybe?? Don’t be surprised. Many thanks to Claw and Mads for arranging this night and Claire, don’t leave it too long before you and Gary return. In the meantime a couple more photos as a reminder.

Even funnier is that when the names go on the electronic TD it reads:

6. Copeland Rod - £160

sorry rod, had to share.
