Sites should probably have an extra confirmation stage(big red box with warning on it) if you try and enter a tournament at 10 x your typical level to stop this sort of thing happening.

Pokerstars does - it has a grey box which appears asking you to confirm if you have to agree to pay the entry fee and you have to click on another dot next to where it gives the entry fee before pressing ok again.

The confirmation box removes their blame kinda, but after a while you just don't read it.

Then you have no excuse when something goes wrong. Its there for a reason if you choose to ignore it then you can have no complaints if someone doesnt want to play ball with you.

Just like people who say "i never read the smallprint".

I think this is less about how he got himself into the situation, more about the other chaps reaction when he tried to get out of it.
It's pretty obvious the poor fella was in a panic trying everything he could to save his roll but equally obvious the other guy just wasn't interested.
I think he shoulda took a bit off him as a penalty if you like but i think he took the p**s in the end, if support had been there 5 mins earlier it would have been a close chop.
The debate really is whether it is right to be totally ruthless in poker or to have some compassion.
That is a great question and one that's difficult to answer, at the time the chap said he was well down on the day, maybe he had a right to get as much as possible?

The one that seems to be getting all the flak entered the 5k game fully prepared to put his entry on the line in a game of poker ... He entered the table second and regardless of what your oppo is typing in the chat box, he is perfectly within his rights to expect the game to be played out.

The fact that he agreed to any sort of deal should be to his credit, he was under NO obligation to do any such thing.

I completely agree with Kev here. This guy was under no obligation to deal at all. If it was me, I would have said "tough shit" and played the game from the start with no inkling of a deal.

If you sit down in a 5K heads-up table by mistake, you are not meant to play online poker.

He had no idea who this other geezer was who wanted to stop the game, he could be someone sticking his mortgage money on the line and he a change of heart, his kids college fund, anything. You take everything people say online with a pinch of salt.

Thank heavens for the last 2 posts, I was wondering whether I was being too tough on the chap. He sat down on a $5k table and went through the rigmorale of confirming his decision. Who's to know he then found out who he was up against and thought to himself, nope I don't fancy my chances against this guy.

No he's not under any obligation to deal but personally I would ship the money back.

People make mistakes and I can only imagine how he felt putting his whole bankroll on one heads up match accidentally.

Yes it was his own fault and he's a noob for registering but I'd like to think I'd show a bit of class and ship him the dough back once support arrived

quick question..as I said I would have let the guy pay me off cheap but..how is this different from chucking too many chips in the pot after making a misread? "Oh sorry I thought I had aces instead of Ace 4 off, please cabn i have my money back?"

I would give the money back.  No question.  It probably took him ages to build up that roll, it is sad to take it away because the poor guy made an error.

My response is based on the assumption that the guy who made the mistake immediately mentioned this before a hand was dealt, and that he did in fact try and get support to the table straight away.

There are two kinds of people in the world - decent, and otherwise.  The decent ones give him his money back, minus their loss on tournament fees.  Everyone else does not.

Like finding a wallet in the street with £500 cash in it, and loads of ID.  The decent ones trace the owner and return it, including the cash.  The others say "Well, shouldn't have lost it in the first place." and steal the money.

Unfortunately, Earth 2007 looks after the latter group, while the former lose out.

life's not black and white like that, i take the money then hand the wallet in to a police station so the guy doesn't have to go through the drama of replacing all his cards

The wallet analogy is a nonsense one... it is nothing like this situation.

At the end of the day, the reluctant player got a right result in getting any sort of deal ... And if he had got dealt aces and the other bloke kings and they limped in and hit a flop of AAK would he have checked it down and carried on pleading ...

Plus ... what would happen if the other guy had a chat ban or didnt use chat ?

He sat at the table of his own free will and got his arse singed .. he was damn lucky he didnt get it burnt beyond recognition.

That is about what i was going to post. This guy could have been trying to put me off my game, im not going to go out of my way when im trying to concentrate on a HU match, whoever said you have to be ruthless in this game at times you are TOTALLY right, if anyone thinks what i have said is harsh then tough!

I probably wouldnt chat at the table, but if support came in i would probably say yeh, break please and end up taking a chop
