....Have to be the stupidest collection of men in football.

5 years ago Real Madrid were European Champions again, for the third time in 5 years. They had Zidane, Figo, Raul, Morientes, Makalele, Hierro, Casillas, Roberto Carlos and were unstoppable.

Then they decide to sack Del Bosque the following year because he didn't win the European Cup.

Since then the board (mainly Fiorentino Perez) has decided to buy all of their players on who the fans want and not what they need. After Hierro and Campo going and Makalele leaving for Chelsea they needed rebuilding at the back and in the holding midfield roles. So who did Perez buy? He added Julio Baptista (I ask you!) and Robinho to a strike force that already had Ronaldo, Raul, Morientes and Owen.

Their midfield replacement for Makalele? Thomas Gravesen. (You couldn't make it up)

Upon trying to use managers with nothing other than a reputation such as Carlos Queiroz they finally decided that Perez should go and a proper manager be brought in. Fabio Capello.

Capello is without a doubt one of the two most successful men in European football today. He's won titles with Roma, Juventus, Milan and Real prior to coming back to Real ten years later.

He immediately sured up the defence and midfield buying Emerson (a player he knew at Roma and Juve), Diarra and World Footballer of the year Fabio Cannavaro.

He did things his way having no problems dropping the media whores such as Beckham and Raul and in both cases reinvigorated the player. Madrid make an amazing comeback going 17 games unbeaten and won the league for the first time in four years.

Real's response to this? Capello has been sacked.

The day before this Sven was made Man City manager and Darren Bent is still being touted about at 17 million.

Football has gone mad.

Forget the pricetag and the Chelsea insults for one minute... seriously who would they drop?

Deco? Are you kidding? Their system is built on two holding players. They've just added Henry to a frontline of Messi, Eto'o and Ronaldinho (who do you drop there too?) now they want another attacking midfielder.

They are the new Real Madrid.

Fabio Capello wasnt happy in the position anyway , and it looks like Mr Wengers next stop will be the Bernabeu.

Look at the football Arsenal played a couple of seasons ago , imagine the quality he could produce at Los Galacticos

Capello came out yesterday and said he wouldn't leave without a fight as he had plans for the club. Apparently they didn't like his style. (Dropping the franchise names)

Wenger going to Madrid is pointless. They don't invest in youth and there is no job stability. If they wouldn't give it to Capello there's no reason for Wenger to think he'll get any.

Every world class manager does things his own way but at Madrid that is impossible.

Big Phil to replace him?
Real Madrid have turned themselves into a joke in the last few years. They sack managers after winning the league then win nothing for the next couple of years.
Hopefully Cannavaro will be sulking on the departure of his mate and decide he would like to see out his days as part of the geordie revolution!!

A few weeks back he said he'd see out his remaining yr at Madrid whether Capello was there or not then go to play with his brother Paolo in Verona I think it is. At his age I'm not sure the premiership would be the best move.

 I disagree , for 2 reasons

 1. Paolo
 2. Maldini

defenders , particularly top class Italian defenders get better with age , Cannavarro may have peaked but he would still comfortably fit into any team in England , forget Newcastle , he is still of the same class as the best in England.

could partner Ferdinand or Terry easily imo.

Pace is essential in England though. Being great is not always enough. Look at Laurent Blanc. Also Marcel Desailly after he reached 33.

In European leagues these guys can get by but not in the EPL - it's too quick.
