I've been in bed since Sunday for 90% of the time, flu, cold, but mostly a "chest", but fortunately, Tom has been very understanding & sympathetic.
That. Is. Tremendous.

What is this and why have I never heard of it before?
There's something great about the sprechgesang style, where the vocalist almost speaks, rather than sings.
Loads of cracking songs with that style, but this has to be my favourite:

As I closed the garden gate I was really in a state
Suitcase in each hand and no transport
The taxi should have been there
He said he was on the way
I thought if he don't hurry up i'll miss me holiday
Finally he turned up and I told him what I thought
Then to my surprise he said sod it you can walk
I had to show a bit of leg, cause time was running out
And a geezer stopped and said
"Hop in I can take you out to Luton Airport"
Oooowe ooooo Luton Airport (x3)
When we landed in Majorca I was much the worse for wear
But with those romantic nights ahead I really didn't care
I checked in to the hotel it must have been four star all those dolly geezers in white suits liggin round the bar
I settled in quite nicely the sun was really strong
An there they where all pullin birds an I thought it won't be long
Sure enough he turns up thinkin he's quite skiv you won't believe it he's the bloke who offered me a lift to
Luton Airport
Ooooowe ooooo Luton Airport (x3)
We had our little romance, we had our little fling
Two weeks in Majorca an he wants to buy a ring
Then I thought he'd left me at the airport on me own but it turns out he's the captain of the plane thats going out to
Luton Airport
Oooowe ooooo Luton Airport (x3)
It's alright being chatted up my heart it turns to jelly
They even think that I'm the girl, the one thats on the telly they say "Look in to my eyes darlin, are you from paradise?"
Well I tell em don't I "NO MATE, LUTON AIRPORT"
Oooowe oooo Luton airport (repeat to fade)

Quite similar in style to the chart-topping "cool for Cats" from the same year.

In my latest Bluff Europe waffle, I attempt to name the Elder Stateman of UK & Irish poker now that Liam has moved on. Go on then, try & name your candidate. I crossed a few names off the list for you.
Then I ask you to name the 2 biggest money winners in the history of the GUKPT. Betcha cant do that correctly without googling. Clues - Thewy is 3rd., Kimber 4th, Pab 5th. But 1 & 2?

I have barely played a hand of poker in two years and even I know this is clearly the Dazzling Cornelius of Smethwick!!!! The elder statesman that is not the biggest money winner......the only man I have ever met that can render ArgueBoy speechless....

Never knew the GUKPT #1 had a WSOP bracelet. Played a bit of $6/$12 limit mixed cash at the Rio with him in the Summer (O8, Stud 8 and 2-7TD). He was very good and came across as a decent guy, friendly etc. Very modest, I think most bracelet winners would be flashing the bangle. Definitely a GIQ type.

Sir Robin Knox-Johnston is off on his travels again at 75.
As a kid I got into reading through the likes of him & Sir Francis Chichester, devouring the local library shelves for all true life adventure. Chris Bonnington, Ranulph Twisleton-Wykeham-Fiennes, John Blashford-Snell...
Wonderful to see the tradition of Boy's Own daring-do still alive.
