haha - incred tekkers!

It seems there was a particularly special game, some time in the 80's, where it rained heavily.

As you are no doubt aware the Wigan away end comprised a grassy bank, and sunderland fans like to take there shirts off! There apparently ensued a game of "sliding down the bank" chest first, which progressed into sliding down the bank mostly naked (or in pants). So you were left iwht several hundred near naked sunderland fans covered from head to toe in mud, and i think there was also a game of footy going on in the background, but nobody is really sure!

It appears every 30+ Sunderland fan I meet was at that game!

Fascinating post I'm going to delve into shortly.

As an aside, it is a major disappointment to me wikipedia isn't regarded as a strong source. Everything is referenced and checked. Hopefully it will be appreciated properly soon.

Agreed. Peer-review is a strong indicator of accuracy when looking at articles on the internet.  You can look at the history of an article on wikipedia and check who has reviewed what, and note any edits/additions, etc.

Of course, for recent events or more obscure topics with a subjective group of interested parties, the articles can be less accurate.  But at least you can see who contributed and when.  99.99% of the time I'll place more trust in something I read on wikipedia than something I read in a newspaper or newspaper website.

Spotted Online today......

Ryanair Holdings Plc (RYA), Europe’s biggest discount airline, increased fiscal second-quarter profit 23 percent and raised its forecast for full-year earnings after strong summer sales helped boost fares more than anticipated.
The stock rose the most in nearly four years after Dublin- based Ryanair said net income for the three months ended Sept. 30 jumped to 496.8 million euros ($637 million) from 404 million euros a year earlier. Analysts had expected earnings of 440 million euros, based on the average of five estimates.

It seems barely a year or two since he was born, & everyone was mocking his "Romeo" name.

Now, aged 10, he is "The Face of Burberry".

Rather pleasing, I think, good luck to the lad, who seems to be well-adjusted, all things considered. The son of millionaire parents don't have life as easy as some might think, it must be quite a challenge in some ways.

20 years ago, Texts ("SMS") were invented.

I still have no idea why we text so much - a voice-call is 20 times quicker, on the face of it. And yet we do.

I just cleared (deleted) 15,000 (fifteen THOUSAND) from my moby, which I have only had a year or two. What?

But so many of us text so often.

In the UK ALONE, 6 BILLION texts will be sent in December. On New Years Eve 300 mlilion will be sent.

20 years ago, never existed, now look at it. The pace of change is incredible.

Now, walk down any busy street, or stand at a Railway Station or whatever, & almost everyone is busy texting.

Incredible how life has changed in such a short time.

It would probably be less of a challenge if they didn't pimp their 10 year old kid out for publicity purposes.

Boo!

I thought it was rather nice to see the kid making an effort. Not sure why I think that, but I do.

On the same subject, at one Aussie tour event years ago one guy won a car for a hole in one. It was placed on a plinth behind the hole and he wanted some pictures of him standing on top of it so came back after the round in his soft shoes and got the photographer to get some shots.

On the same tee the day after he took all the plaudits from the crowd and officials and pumped up by the adrenalin over hit his tee shot , hit his now new car and broke the window with his ball.

Photo or it did not happen Phil!

That double hole in one.......

You could probably get 2/1 ANY golfer getting a hole in one in that Event on ANY Par 3.

There are (I assume) 4 x Par 3's, &, at a guess, 100 players in the event.

I can't do the maths ("math"?), but the price must be monsta.

Yes, abs ridic price to have the same guy do it twice.

A friend of mine once holed in one at the same hole on 3 consecutive Saturdays

http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/56379/3-holes-in-one-at-one-hole.html

He is currently director of golf at Modry Las in Poland

Geo

They play golf up there in Scotland? Don't believe it George. Golf is ENGLISH, surely?......

http://www.albertkahn.co.uk/europe.html

Some colour photographs taken over 100 years ago.  Just incred

Just a bit, wonderfully evocative.

Tell me, Ryan, I know you pretty well, from being a Luton regular, we work together, we've chilled in Vegas, you are a successful multi-table cash regular, this & that, but you keep surprising me. How did you stumble upon that website - what non-poker interests do you have?

I loved this photo, especially.....

I just like clicking random stuff on the internet.  Am totally fascinated by the past tho and just read endless amounts.

Think that you'll also enjoy this...

http://www.rbooks.co.uk/product.aspx?id=1846074584

In 1909 the millionaire French banker and philanthropist Albert Kahn embarked on an ambitious project to create a colour photographic record of, and for, the peoples of the world. As an idealist and an internationalist, Kahn believed that he could use the new Autochrome process, the world's first user-friendly, true-colour photographic system, to promote cross-cultural peace and understanding.

Until recently, Kahn's huge collection of 72,000 Autochromes remained relatively unheard of. Now, a century after he launched his project, this book and the BBC TV series it accompanies are bringing these dazzling pictures to a mass audience for the first time and putting colour into what we tend to think of as an entirely monochrome age.

Kahn sent photographers to more than 50 countries, often at crucial junctures in their history, when age-old cultures were on the brink of being changed for ever by war and the march of twentieth-century globalisation. They documented in true colour the collapse of the Ottoman and Austro-Hungarian empires, the last traditional Celtic villages in Ireland, and the soldiers of the First World War. They took the earliest known colour photographs in countries as far apart as Vietnam and Brazil, Mongolia and Norway, Benin and the United States. In 1929 the Wall Street Crash forced Kahn to bring his project to an end. He died in 1940, but left behind the most important collection of early colour photographs in the world.

My fav picture was this.  A girl in Mongolia sentenced to death by being trapped in a box, trying to set herself free.  I wonder what she did to deserve this 'punishment'.  I wonder if she managed to escape or if once the guy took the photo he helped her out.  I think its unlikely tho.

You have hidden depths Ryan, it never crossed my mind that this sort of stuff would even vaguely interest you. My bad, obv, but we do tend (pardon the dreadful incoming pun) to put people in boxes.

More golfing feel good

Daniel Popovic went into this weeks Australian PGA championship ranked 1251st in the men's golf world rankings Tony and was 1000/1 on Betfair to win the event. He is something like 30 odd over par on the season for his completed rounds.

His dad is dying of cancer and he promised he would try to win a tournament for him. He shot 64 in the first round, was in front after every round and even after falling 2 behind down the stretch he got back up to win one of the biggest golf events in Australia.

More "feel-good" stuff Phil, thank you.
