The Malaysia air flight story is morbidly fascinating. Latest reports that the flight changed course and flew at cruising altitude for over an hour in completely the wrong direction, this was tracked by the Malaysian military.

Crazy story, the search area given the new information and estimated fuel left on board is truly massive and is mostly ocean.

Have you ever seen anything like the disappearance of the Malaysian plane?

Quite incredible, in a bad way, that it is still missing

Have you been following PPRUNE and the like?

Whats the "best guess" thesis?

I've barely been off PPRuNe since Friday, when this affair was first reported.

The PPRuNe thread now runs to 70 (SEVENTY) pages.

For context, blonde currently has 75 Guests & 46 Members viewing.

PPRuNe currently has....

Currently Active Users: 13963 (1949 members and 12014 guests)

And the busiest ever day on PPRuNe?

Most users ever online was 18,156, 8th Mar 2014 at 14:25.

Yup, Saturday, the day after the aircraft disappeared.

The thread has 1,700,000 (1.7 MILLION) Views in 72 hours. That's more than TfT has managed in over 2 years.

The whole thread is here.....

http://www.pprune.org/rumours-news/535538-malaysian-airlines-mh370-contact-lost.html

There is even a Wiki Page for it, here......

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malaysia_Airlines_Flight_370

Synopsis follows.....

I read that thread from start to finish........and that's 2 hours of my life I will never get back ;o)

Was expecting Mulder and Scully to pop up at any moment.

Best theory I've yet seen, Ryan, it all fits. Whether it's true, I've no idea.

I don't know what to think, to be honest.

Only 2 hours Phil?

Wish I could have managed it in 2 hours.

Extraordinary how many people View & Post on that Forum. Interesting to see their debating style, too, a lot of old-school snobbery, & sarcasm, especially from Retired Pilots, & everyone is an "expert", but no swearing at all, they Moderate it rigidly.

I really enjoy reading that Forum, which I do routinely, every day. I know, saddo......

Have to ask you a question - was Connor (Conor?, not sure, sorry) watching when Our Conor fell? How did he react?

Yes, "morbidly interesting" is right, I suppose. I'm fixated by the whole thing.

I felt very early on that the Authorities knew more than they were letting on, as the S & R was not taking place anywhere near where it "should" have been, based upon where the aircraft disappeared from the tracking screens.

I would assume that Flight Aware & the like use transponder info, not Radar, which would explain why it appeared that the aircraft fell to zero feet on their software when it "disappeared". Radar would have been able to continue to track it properly, & the ATC & Authorities would presumably use Radar.

Just reflecting on that, if it IS credible, the FAA, CAA etc will be issuing mandatory inspections within 24 hours, or even grounding the 777's until inspected.

Thankfully not, he was at school. He was looking forward to watching the races on tape when he got home but I had to tell him Our Connor had fallen and hurt his leg so they had retired him and he now gets to live his life in a field eating carrots and hay with his girlfriend. He was upset at that so I'm glad he wasn't watching live. Not sure you will find any of that in the good parenting handbook but I had to come up with something quick when his lip started to wobble.

I was envisaging you'd do something like that, & praise be that you did, he would have been in bits.

Thank goodness he never saw it happen, & listened to the commentary or viewed the telecast. When Ms Balding announced it, even I was close to welling up.

It happens all the time, we know that, but it's never nice, especially on a "headline day" like today, & to such an exciting young prospect.

I was at Cheltenham one year when a horse fell at the last & lay motionless.  Soon, the screens were put up, & the crowd went totally silent. It was horrible. About 5 minutes later, they removed the screens & the horse got up! He has just been winded. Bigger cheer for that than when little Monksfield won the Champion Hurdle, believe me.

Me too, was sickening to see and tho we are watching for entertainment and financial reasons none of that really matters when something as sad as that happens does it?

Here's something I didn't know - Rolls Royce do live monitoring of their aircraft engines. The plane sends data via radio or satellite during the flight.

http://www.newscientist.com/article/dn25201-malaysian-plane-sent-out-engine-data-before-vanishing.html

If the engines can do this, then why doesn't the black box?

I'm currently working at RR Derby and in the same building this monitoring takes place. I haven't heard anybody discuss this at all other than to stop work on any projects that may affect this during last weekend. Strangley quiet as you usually hear things through the grapevine if not directly.
