The news from NASA that 7 earth sized exoplanets (whatever they are) have been discovered leaves me cold, I have no interest whatever in that stuff.

What is quite impressive is how far away they are - 40 light years, or 235 trillion miles.

The problem with all this space shite is the sheer scale of it - it's just so hard to imagine how far that is.

Sad news that David Cassidy - yes, he of the Partridge Family, & quite the heart throb in his prime - is reportedly suffering from dementia. Such a horrible disease.

Life has been a bit of a struggle for him in recent years, with alcoholism, a string of DUI charges, & bankruptcy.

Good looking boy back in the 70's, very photogenic, and does not look too bad now for a 66 year old, & I'd be happy to look that good when I'm his age.

Did you see the BBC story on this:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-39035720

Interesting title I thought "David Cassidy: Ex-Partridge Family idol says he has dementia".

I think they are somewhat sceptical of his claim, else they would have titled it "David Cassidy: Ex-Partridge Family idol has dementia".

Yes, I agree, hence I wrote "reportedly".

It's hard to know what to think really. I suppose it could be a ruse, but that's not a nice thought, & I don't like to think ill of folks if I can help it.

There's an interesting moral dilemma off the back of that. Would we rather he were lying, or that he really had the malaise?

I'm thinking "I hope he is telling the truth", but then that means I hope he has dementia. Which I don't, obv.

I guess he may not even know if he is telling the truth - maybe a dementia sufferer would not.

I do know one thing - dementia scares the life out of me. I sort of try to "test myself" all the time, to make sure I'm still compos mentis. Now & then I'll forget something very basic - like a password I use every day - & that really bothers me. But then I forget about it. Which is equally worrying.....

There is going to be a period of time between knowing you have dementia to becoming an incontinent wreck who doesn't recognise anybody and can't communicate.   I saw a video and early stage dementia seemed a reasonable explanation for what was going on.

I can't see the benefit in giving up your career and pretending you had dementia.  It isn't something that is going to make people want to spend more time with you.

The annoying thing about dementia tests is many of them are pretty mathematical.   I suspect I am going to be long gone before I underperform the average.

What connects two time EPT winner, Victoria Coren-Mitchell, some morris dancers and UK Grime artist Stormzy?

At the very least, this photo.

Isn't that just fabulous?

Love his annual Shareholders letters, & have read every one of them. No other Business does anything like them, not even close.

He has his own homely style, too, & has a habit of dropping in his little understated chirps. I rather enjoyed this one;

"...Over the last 52 years (that is, since present management took over.....")

It is, of course, 52 years since he founded the business.

I'll not bother with the T-Shirt, but I think I'll get me one of those Berkshire baseball caps.

Anyway, good to see you are still perusing some of the murkier areas of blonde. How are you keeping these days?

I just saw THE most amazing story on the Forum Next Door.

A player with the alias of QUICKFEET is a regular there. Not "regular" in the pro sense, just a small ball player on Sky Poker, one of many tens of thousands.  He posts now & then about this & that, & seemed to be of cheerful disposition, & all of his posts are upbeat & generally cheerful.

Only this morning I learn that his alias QUICKFEET arises as he has cerebral palsy, his hands are paralysed & useless, so he plays the computer using his toes.

And here he is driving.

Here's QUICKFEET's foot operated (big toes, actually) keyboard.

"I have a custom-built keyboard with recessed keys to prevent 2 being pressed at once. To para-phrase Murray Walker, my keyboard is unique except for the identical one that is a spare!
It also has a trackball in the bottom corner.
I specified the layout of the keys so that the common letters are grouped around the SPACE key in the middle and for common combinations such as "T" & "H" I can use alternate toes for greater speed (I only use my two big toes)
"

Brings a whole new meaning to "clicking buttons".

On my favourite train line, from Glasgow to Inverness, fantastic scenic route. Already spotted roe deer, a fox, herons, a buzzard and a flock of geese, should see red deer when we get up into the snow. Back down in the morning.
