We (Sky) had hoped to get Thewy on next Friday's "Primo", but he's gallavanting across to Germany for the Dortmund EPT, but he'll be on
Sky
Poker
quite soon, I promise.
Instead, I think we've found a pretty good - make that superb - Guest, in
Lucy
Rokach
. She agreed, on the proviso that she could insult me all night. Neverends.
I continue to be amazed at Thewy's final hand call last Sunday wth pocket Fives, against an ultra-tight Opponent, who'd re-re-Raised all-in, having twice checked down the nuts or 2nd nuts earlier. It was a massive call. But Thewy's views was, well, "I still had 300k or so behind, & if it goes tits up, well, I'll move those 300k aroiund big-time, & will soon get back in it". Oh to be half-so confident, & a tenth so good.
I discussed this play with Lucy today. The young guns may not have the respect for Lucy us older guys have, but her Live Game record is a bit special, believe me. And aggressive......Her view was she makes the call with fives in a heartbeat. "I don't like investing chips in a pot & then Passing" said the Goddess of Poker.....Jen, Chili, Bev, Ding
et al
are setting the pace these days, but they've gotta go some to catch Lucy up.
I think the young guns respect Lucy, it's just that they don't respect her current game, and from what we've seen of late, I can understand why. Poker is about the now for me, and in that sense I don't think 'catching up' has much meaning. Plus, you seemed to have moved into gender categorising here, which neither Lucy or Jen will probably like. They want to be seen as poker players, not female poker players, which seems fair to me.
Lucy
Rokach
was a great poker player, regardless of gender, (she may still be today, we don't know). Jen is a great poker player now and I doubt she's bothered about 'catching Lucy up' to become the best female player.
Also..you can't catch up if you're setting the pace, can you? i thought that the one setting the pace was the one in front...the...erm pace-setter if you will.

Point taken snoops, it was badly-worded. Jen & Chili & Lucy & the like are poker player, not girlies, I'm the first to champion that, but even within poker, there are sub-sections, & categories. That was my point.
I just had a text, from a "prominent" player, telling me Lucy is the worst player he's ever played. I think that's a bit harsh - her record suggests otherwise.

Heaven is.....
I'm in my Hotel Room, & the Fish Compo has turned up, & we are watching the Lve Racing from Dubai, where he goes most weeks. It's great to watch something with a real expert & "insider". (He fancies Aquino for the next).
But the real bonus is......

Aquino got beat. "Shocking head carriage".....That's a Bad Beat story, I've demanded 50p.
Meanwhile.....

The Hotel window directly overlooks, just yards away, the railway line from St Pancras to the North. Every few minutes, we see a Midland Mainline, or Thameslink, train, & there's even EWS freight sets.
Compo is loving it. Ish. I explain every train to him, of course.

Good guess. Wrong guess! Mr Dubai & myself don't swap texts. The player in question is President of the tikay Fan Club, & is in awe of my aggression at the table.

Compo suggests "Gravitas" in the next, an 11/2 shot. Best avoided, I'd say. Or shot.

I've just read an interesting couple of articles about St Pancras station in a magazine called "Architecture Today", not surprisingly it's a little bit more to do with the architecture than the trains, but I could let you have a copy the next time I see you, if you think that might be interesting Tikay?

Yes please!
And I'll find some pics, comparing the grandeur of St Pancras, & the utter blandness of the neighbouring building - the British Library.

There you go, two for the price of one. How awful is the British Library?

Yes, well texts like that are nonsensical. She's clearly got a great cracking record and has won more events than most have had hot dinners. People are so quick to criticise though, and often through watching heavily edited TV shows or seeing one misplayed hand on an update. The general consensus seems to be that it takes years before we work out who the good and bad players are, but the same people who came to that conclusion are quite happy to label someone as a fish after just a couple of hands. Doesn't make sense to me.
By the way, Dana announced last night that "Lucy is sexy." What do you make of that?

a strange place on the inside as well. I didn't know what to make of it the few times I've been there (which is not good in a library)
