Err...thanks Kin. Moving swiftly on....

Andy was a bit nervous, almost introvert, so I spent some time in the Green Room with him & Alan to sort of settle Andy a bit. Good Guests are golden, but they are no good if they go all camera shy, & clam up. It's part of making the Show watchable, imo.

Convo turned to current Premiership wages, & Alan was of the view that the better ones deserve it, but that many of them were only half-competent, but were getting £10k to £20k a week. He reckoned that in "his day" the footballers had to be really something special to get in an International Team, for example.

I said "so you never saw Carlton Palmer play, then?" which sort of abruptly terminated that avenue of convo amid much guffawing.

I believe Carlton went on to become a Manager, but my recollection was that he was better as a player. I think that's called "damning with faint praise".

...and continuing with the football theme, I don't imagine many of you remember Charlie George. Legend, fact.

He was as famous as Beckham, as outrageous as Georgie Best, this was in the 70's, very different times, & he was way ahead of his era, very controversial.

The pic of him laying on the floor in celebration is one of THE most memorable footie pics of the era, it was not done then, this was pre-Gazza by 20 years.

He was A-List+. Even the hair - long hair, disgusting eh?

And now? Today?

Still a Legend, in my book.

I bet Karabiner can name every player in that Charlie George pic. Come on Ralph, show us your Arsenal geekiness.

What price Karabiner has a Charlie George Egg-Cup?

Is it me or does anyone else think he looks like a thinner version of that character from little Britain?

He still works for the @rse on the hospitality team I believe,  he wasnt as good as Liam Brady though.

Sure does, & he loves every minute of it. He seems to know every single staff Member there, all the Catering staff, the stewards, the security guys, the tea-ladies, he has a chat with every one.

We clicked immediately, he's huge fun, very sharp, street-wise, knows exctly what's what, how many beans make five, & does not tolerate fools gladly.

We got on to current wages again, & of course Charlie sort of missed the boat by a decade or two, "I earn more now then I did then". I think it's just lovely that he's found a nice little number with the Arsenal.

We reminiscenced about football in his day, Franny Lee - remember his penalties? - & somehow we got on to Derby County (he played for them a goodly while) & bingo, we suddenly realised that we both knew John Kirkland (my Chairman for 22 years) very well, ditto John's father, Jack who, famously, sacked Cloughie.

In fact, I first met John Kirkland at the Baseball Ground, where I was doing some work, & therein lies the beginning a whole chapter of my life.

I don't suppose many know this - prepare to be fascinated - but the Baseball Ground had it's own little Railway Station - a "Halt" technically - but it closed many moons ago. It's still there, but disused & decrepit. Bit like me.

A real thrill to meet Charlie, I'm made up.

As to The Emirates, wow, just wow. It's not that far from Griffin Park, but only in some respects......

How awe-inspiring is this? Ignore the grit bin, that was put there by a Spurs fan I expect.

And Mr George's view off the Spurs renaissance?

"It won't last. Trust me".

Everything about that Stadium impresses, it's majestic, a cathedral of a Stadium.

The build quality, the architecture, the eye for detail, everything, is "just so". I love it.

I guess that clock is the original, & very famous, Highbury Clock, too?

I wonder how much The Emirates (is it the Airline or the Country?) paid to "badge" that Stadium? A pretty penny, surely.
