On my final night, after busting out of Caesars', I went to play cash at PH( that's what us locals call Planet Hollywood).

I sat on a $1 $2 table that had the most amazing stacks in front of just about every player. To my right a (possibly) drunk American who, as I sat down, was pushing all-in blind. Apparently he had been doing this for the last 15 minutes or so, and not surprisingly had doubled up just about everyone at the table. On closer inspection I saw it was Gavin Smith who had picked up a fair wedge at this years WSOP and was donking off some "small change" in spectacular style. There then followed a highly unusual incident in which one player called a GS all-in only for the dealer to muck the callers cards! All hell then ensued as the caller jumped up " wheres my f$%^&g cards....WHERES MY F%^$£NG CARDS!!" Gavin Smith says" what did have?"  "A 6 is the reply"  "ok lets play them then".. hold on says the dealer I cant do that.. "yes you can "says Mr Smith.  After much toing and froing the floor manager is called and under severe pressure from Gavin Smith and the caller "De-mucks" the cards!!!!  of course the A 6 holds up. Ship it.

Ps. The whole episode was recorded on camera so every chance an appearance on youtube in the near future.

Finally I get on the wrong end of a dealers "mis-hear" when I raise with AK and get a caller. the dealer says "all-in" Sorry says the caller I only called. On no says the dealer I heard all-in. The caller throws his chips in (approx $95. Being the kind chap I am I offer the following. I will fold if the all-in merchant refunds my $15 raise. No way says the man. I call with my AK he flips 10 6. At least he two paired on the flop and I didint have to wait for a killer river!!

C'est la vie

I find it pretty difficult to give Mr Gavin Smith much credit for anything. He was described by some American friends in Monte Carlo a while back as a "goofball", though I don't know what that means. I've yet to see him sober, though, & he starts with the disadvantage of wearing his BaseBall Cap backwards, always a clue..........

I saw him a few times in Vegas this year - always "under the influence" (of what I know not), but he has a lot of schoolboy prop bets - like having a players name tattooed on his butt being the "prize" for a "Last-Longer" bet.

last year phil gordon was trying to round up a few europeans for the charity roshambo comp and gave me a tug during one of the preliminary events. I said sure but as I had just been shown my own backside on the craps table I would have to stump the 500 up in the morning as all the cash was at the house up in the hills. Gavin (who I had never met before) simply chucked him a 1k chip and said see if you can get a mate to play as well. The day atfer he kind of found me in the roshambo and asked if he had staked me yesterday as he wasnt sure who he had put in (I gave him the 1k back at that point lol).  Found him very amusing company over the rest of the trip and although loud (like most americans) he wasn't up his own arse at all and seemed keen to share his fortune with those less fortunate than himself staking almost anyone in tourneys and cash games etc (sure he will have problems with some who take advantage of him). I did have the displeasure of sharing a table with one of his buddies from the dumb prop bets who was totally the opposite and muttered the immortal " dont you know who I am" when I made a move on him (my response was a simple "no, should I?" although I do wish I had given him the full Barry Neville response).

Gavin one of the good guys in my book
