Hi all,

I was in the Sportsman last night to try and qualify for the main event. During the course of the evening we had a situation as follows. The blinds are 300 / 600 and under the gun raises to 1600. It is passed around to the small blind who Say's call and throws in 300. The dealer tells him their was a raise and he chucks in his cards and takes out his 300. The dealer then tells him that his call stands and he must put in the remainder. Is the dealer right or wrong Question 1.....

What then happens really baffles me. Hilton the card room manager makes a different ruling. He states that under the Harrahs rules, which he has to enforce, the player can take back his 300 and pass. He will be warned and might even be given time away from the table. He also states that a second offence would lead to disqualification.

My point on this ruling is simple. Say for instance I am faced with a player who has moved all in on me. I could under these rules say "call" and chuck in a few chips. The idea is that perhaps the player would turn over their hand or give some reaction. I could then decide if I continue with the call or remove my chips. I know this is neither ethical or sporting but I'm sure someone will abuse this terrible rule. 

So for anyone who is playing during the next week in these events take a look at the rules. Be warned.

I don't know the Harrah's rules, but in answer to your question 1 everywhere I play the verbal declaration of "Call" by the SB is binding

No verbal declaration and chuck in 300 and he is allowed to pass as he has put in less than half of the amount required to match the raise.

I agree with you Tighty  but that leaves the Harrah's rule. How many other rules will be different and or abused. The yanks will know and use them all.   Read them first if you have the time. Also their was no announcement that we were playing under these rules.

13. A player who bets or calls by releasing chips into the pot is bound by that action and must make the amount of the wager correct. (This also applies right before the showdown when putting chips into the pot causes the opponent to show the winning hand before the full amount needed to call has been put into the pot.) However, if you are unaware that the pot has been raised, you may withdraw that money and reconsider your action, provided that no one else has acted after you. At pot-limit or no-limit betting, if there is a gross misunderstanding concerning the amount of the wager, see No Limit and Pot-Limit.

So you don't really have to pay attention, how stupid!

Ripple your taking the pi..   how would I know who won as I lost AK against 10 10.   Was home in bed before the result.  Seriously though their was 50 runners with two seats and cash.    How many runners will they get  100 /200/300/400/500/600/700

My guess 500 plus or minus 50

 Surprising there were as many as 50, given how poorly attended the other qualifiers have been.
Think you are about right with 500 +/- 50...(.which isn't good for my spread bet on betfair for 300 to 400.....thats now 17/1 !)

A similar situation happened at my table in the 2006 WSOP.

At 500/1000, there had been an early raise (to 7000). A mid position player (who hadn't seen/noticed the raise) said 'Call' and placed a 1000 chip in the pot. The dealer said he had to put in the value of the raise. He disputed this and said the dealer should have announced the earlier raise. The floor was called, and ruled that the player had to put 7000 in the pot. He still disputed this, and called for a second ruling, which was the same.

So, it would seem they went out of their way to change the rule to be more stupid this year.

Lookin like if they touch the muck you may make the call stand, take some chips, then declare his hand dead. Equals one angry punter, but what's the alternative.......fish around in the muck?

Back in August, the head poker guy at LCI said they were expecting up to 750. Someone over at THM took an over bet with Neil Channing with the line at 700!

Quite a way short.

Magnus Persson has just doubled up in comedy circumstances.

On a flop of he goes all in for 15,000.

His opponent, one of the Betfair qualifiers, says, "Call." When the dealer asks him for 15,000 chips he looks confused.

"I thought you said 1,500."
