It seems like M3's point has been missed here, if you read the staked players thread he explains that he was goig to try this for an experiment, based on travel, expenses & buy in. would anyone stake him?

Lol, its ok - I expected some to get the wrong idea or even to use it to "have a pop" - like water of a ducks back m8

And just to update - there is now only 6% available anyway Wink

if someones roi is 100% is it worth playing the comp? (500 buyin + 500 expenses). on average your only going to comeback with a return of 1000 euros everytime. just going on the opr website most profitable players roi is between 0-100% therefore is travelling to play comps worthwhile?
Travelling to tournys is probably not worthwhile from a ROI aspect.
The thing with tournys is obviously the lure of a big win, also the added advantage of guaranteed live side games.
Not to mention the chance of a Weekend Jolly  with other people whose main topic of conversation is Poker. (Does anyone else get the feeling they are boring people to death all the time talking about poker )

If this is all about the community aspect like you said M3, then you should be selling at face value to get a few blondes interested.

If this is from a "try and cut losses" view, then sell for as much as you want.

Oh yes!! I went on a date recently where we were at a loss as to what to talk about - he doesn't play poker - I haven't had a normal conversation in years. Unless its poker, poo, or if I'm talking to a woman I can slag off men, other than that   I'm really stuck.

I need to get a hobby that doesn't involve poker but as the financial future of the G casino in Luton is partly reliant on me I feel responsible for the dealers jobs and have to keep going there.  Roll Eyes

The very last hand of the night goes to Dewi James, who finds ACES and talks Raymond O’Mahoney into calling his all-in preflop bet of 15k.  “If I had AQ, I’d call!” says Dewi.  Raymond calls holding pocket 66’s.

I have only given a share up once. It cost me £2400 and i did not mind paying it. Promised myself never again though because I proved to myself that there was no need. Happy to play just for me. Only ever leads to argument, often between so called mates. I don't think M3Boy was necessarily looking for an edge he was just curious to see what would happen. This is after all a forum.

Commenting on past experience, I have never ever asked a player to buy a % of him in a tournament, but I have bought many %'s when asked, and always as a favour to the player, its like a lending someone some money who you like but instead of him paying you back, you swop that for a chance of winning more.

99.999999999999999% of the time players sell pieces of themselves as they do not want/cannot stump up the full-buy in themselves and really want to play the event. In M3boy's case, the amount he is selling is relatively small, so in this case, it looks like a genuine experiment.

In terms of backing players, since they are asking me (and I would prefer not to do it), I expect no "+ VE juice", ie. for a £1k event, I buy 20% for £200. In terms of some of the comments in here, I would say that live tournament poker is a -VE business in the long term, same as the national lottery, I just don't buy the fact that the top pro players have such a huge edge over the field V a solid amatuer. However, i would say cash games are the opposite in the long term, and backing top cash players (who lose their winnings on casino/sportsbook) would be a much better way to make a profit.

Cheers Rob

Spot on Rob.

I never expected to sell any %age tbh, but as it turns out, it looks like I have sold the full 20%

Just to confirm - ALL 20% has now been taken.

So Ralph, the answer to your question on the staking thread is YES.
