Enchantment? Enchantment!

It's the final update of the year, all the way across from Prague, in Eastern Europe, another edition to the expanding EPT. But part of this update comes in the form of an announcement, that, as of next year, we'll be reducing the number of EPT updates that we do. The simple fact is that the vast majority of blonde's expenses go on live updates and with the dusk til dawn sponsorship (which everyone was incredibly grateful for and we hope we've given value for money in return) now ending, the truth of the matter is that blonde simply cannot afford to cover all the EPT's as more and more are introduced. (11 this year and they're looking for number 12 next year). We'll still be covering some of them and Copenhagen and the Grand Final in Monte Carlo will certainly be covered, but as for Dortmund, San Remo and Warsaw, their futures with regards to the blonde updates are much more up in the air.

Meanwhile, back in tourneyland, we're expecting numbers here to pick up slightly with the decrease in the buy-in to the much healthier (in my opinion) €5k.

A smattering of Scandies with a dosage of Brits, but not so many Americans due to the fact that the APPT final in Sydney is going on at the same time. Finally, Mad Harper (Winner of the Best Staff Member award in Paris at the Weekend, hurrah!) has informed me that the new slimmer, blonder Elky now resembles Billy Idol, which is something I really have to see for myself.

Play starts at 12pm(!).

You heard me right. That's 11am UK time, set your clocks people!!!

This is the At A Glance thread where only the updaters can post, for a fuller update, head over to the interactive thread.

A lonnnnnng anouncement has just been made by Thomas Kremser which is pretty handy because you get to find out stuff.  I'll give you a short run down:

8 levels will be played today of 1 hour length.

There will be a break every 2 hours for 15 mins.

Days 1a & 1b will all be 9 handed but revert to 8 handed tables once Day 2 begins.

There will be a redraw at the end of each day.

The offset of players not having to be in their seats for the start means that most players are playing about 5 handed and some tables even 3 handed!  A great chance for some early tomfoolery if you fancy being cheeky.  It looks like 238 players so far for today but registrations will still be taken in the first 2 levels.

Spotted today so far:

Johnny Lodden
Martin Wendt
Rolf Slotboom
Jeff Kimber
Julian Thew
Nicholas Levi
Katja Thater
Jonas Molander
Gunnar Ostebrod

It's a quiet start so far, it's hard to spot many Brits around today. Ray Wyre seems to be the only other one apart from Jeff and Julian. The latter informing me that one player limp-called from UTG with K-2, chased a gutshot all the way to the river and a second min-raised Q-9, called a re-raise and then chased on an Ace high board just to hit his pair.

In more amusing news, there had to be a semi-table redraw when all FIVE Betsson players, including Johnny Lodden, Henning Granstad,  and Gunner Osterbrod (who Maria really really really really really does not fancy. Honest) all got put on the same starting table. So three of them got moved. Anyone remember a situation like this happening before?

I think generally, I'm familiar with the vast majority of European players, but having spent a good ten minutes in the tournament area - a place which reminds me of a US College Basketball arena, most of the players are unrecognisable, there are so many new faces here it's untrue.

A pensive-looking Arnaud Mattern was facing a 3k bet on the river of a , which at this point was going to cost him half his stack. Clearly agonising over the hand, he thought for a long time during which we went into level 2, (and got that 'OOohhhh Yeah' soundclip from Ferris Bueller's Day Off played in the background). Eventually, I'm guessing due to the flurry of betting either preflop or on the flop, (the turn was apparently checked) Arnaud mucked his Kings face up, and was shown .

Rob Taylor is up to the early heights of 19k, while over on Julian's 'Whole Load of Crazy' table one player to his right limp re-raises all-in from under the gun, something he's apparently done 3 times already. The scandinavian in the pot, (to Julian's right) eventually makes the call with , but this time he runs into the board coming 8-Q-J-4-J.

Ray Wyre is OUT, 7-7 vs A-J, all-in on the turn of a J-J-6-4-A board.

Thewy is down to about 5k. After the affore-mentioned A-Q vs A-A. Thewy called a raise on the button with K-J and Mr A-Q previous hand man called as well from the small blind.

The flop was K-3-3 with two suits and straight away the small blind moved in for 6k into the 2k pot. The other raiser flat-called with 2k back and Thewy put him in for his last 2k which the guy surprisingly passed for. The small blind was indeed on tilt as he turned over K-5 but spiked the 5 on the turn.

Julian said, "I'll probably get a lot of stick for the call but I felt there was a good chance I was ahead and could've built up to 30k if I win that pot, and if I lose I still have 8k left."

Some chip counts from the players I recognise, there really are a lot of European players I don't know but I shall endevour to learn today.  If anyone wants a player following then just ask and me or Floppy shall oblige to stalk them.

Arnaud Mattern  8,600
Jeff Kimber  10,200
Dave Penly  7,600 ("had an accident" he says that's what he gets for calling a raise with J6 spades but gets suckered in with a K 9 6 board, 2 spades.  He didn't improve though and 6 was no match for pocket Aces!"

Bengt Sonnert  11,500
Rolf Slotboom  16,900 (his tictacs are getting closer to his nose)
Julian Thew  4,400
Christoffer Egemo Hansen  15,600
Katja Thater  5,400
Gunnar Ostebrod  13,600
Jonas Molander  12,300
Johnny Lodden  9,500
Markus Golser  10,600  (nice jacket, picture proof to follow).

The fabulously named Kenneth Hicks Jr has doubled through the equally wonderfully named Juilani Junnilainen with Tens against Eights on a three clubs board. All-in on the flop presumably.

Nicolas 'Hatpimp' Levi has lost a big chunk of his stack with against on a board. His opponent checked the multiway limped pot, Nicolas bet 750, received two callers, (one of whom apparently held Queens!) before the short stack moved in with his , Nicolas moved in behind him but missed a heart or Ace.

Add 3,100 to Jeff Kimber's stack. He's just knocked out Julian Thew with A-T against Fives. Ace on the flop.

Johnny Lodden is OUT. Ace King against Nines, an Ace and a Nine on the flop.

Dave Penly bets 1,100 on a . His opponent in seat 2 makes it 3,000. Undeterred, Dave makes it 6,700 and elicits a fold from his opponent.

Rolf Slotboom is squawking on table 17. His opponent has just bet 1,000 on a board. "I'm folding the best hand here," he said, "Don't show me a bluff! Don't show me a bluff." He mucks the .

"I'm a chicken! A chicken!" shouts Rolf to anyone who is listening.

I don't think he's a farmyard animal, but he's clearly left this planet.

Jeff Kimber is OUT. He raised with A-Q, called a re-raise all-in versus K-Q. The King came and then a flush as well to add to insult to injury.

Running out of Brits today, though it seems there's a lot more playing tomorrow including Priyan De Mel who won a sattelite last night.

Nicolas Levi, the almighty 'Hatpimp' is out, he'd raised out of the small blind with Sevens getting one caller, bet a 2-3-4 flop before pushing on the King turn which he reasoned was most likely a blank, except his opponent had called his raise and flop bet with K-8...

Dennis Plejdrup just went out in a really big pot just before the break.

He'd bet out on a three diamonds but was re-raised all-in by we think by Adrian Koy and faced a big decision for his tournament life. He stood-up and decided to go with his read and made the call with Jacks, a good call it turned out as his opponent was on a stone-cold bluff with until he spiked an Ace on the turn, winning what looked to be upwards of a 40k pot.
