I am so pleased I didn't see this before she returned.
Really glad she's back, are you taking extra security precautions now?
I'm reassessing my assumption that she was taken now Rich. She still had her collar with her identity disc on it when she came back. What thief would leave that on?
I'm at a loss to know what happened. Instinct is a powerful thing though, perhaps she just dug a hole and hid in it.
I wonder if she got hung up on a tree branch, but if so where, and why didn't she cry out?
She seems very happy to be home.

Sounds a bit silly me saying this to you Red, however I assume you have checked she is still with pup.

Not silly at all Geo, one of the first things I looked for. They are still in there for the moment.
I'll be surprised if she doesn't have then tonight though. She didn't eat her dinner, she's dug an imaginary hole in her bedding, and she's let her milk down.

That's great, some years ago our Roxy had a litter of which she ate 2. On speaking to the vet he said it was quite common for the mother to do this if they had been stillborn and on occassion when they had sensed deformity/illness.
He also mentioned he'd heard of some mothers disappear for a time and come back litterless and it was thought she had disposed of them.

Women think about they selves when menfolk ain't around
And friends are hard to find when they discover that you're down
He said I tried it all when I was young and in my natural prime
Now it's old dogs and children and watermelon wine
Old dogs care about you even when you make mistakes
And I love the little children while they're still too young to hate
When he moved away I found my pen and copied down that line
Bout old dogs and children and watermelon wine

Red-Dog is delivered of a litter
What a topsy turvy 24 hours that was Tom - the glorious uncertainty of life, all there inside 24 hours.
Sadness, shock, desperation, bitterness, despair, hope, relief, happiness, tears, all there in one short day.
Sometimes, life is better through the rear view mirror.
