I like to read the news in the mornings, it seems much more civilised than watching it on telly. No noise, no adverts, no big red ticker-tape offending my eyes....

Today, hidden amongst the the war and politics, I stumbled across this. It's a whimsical piece, but I enjoyed it.

Why is it that when I stop to open the gate, I park as close as possible to it?

It's not as if I would notice the difference if I stopped a foot further back. I just seem to find some sort of perverse pleasure in getting as near as I can, usually, within an inch or two.

Occasionally, I get it wrong, and then I have to get back into the car, reverse it up a bit, get out again, open the gate again, get back into the car again, and drive through.

This only seems to happen on days when it is snowing or raining.

do you ever read a newspaper red or do you do most of your morning reading online (did you used to get newspapers and now get your fix online)?  I'm interested because I met a lady that works as editor of a local newspaper and she was telling me all sorts of facts about traditional news methods.

I've never been much of a newspaper man. I don't like the way that stories are obtained or produced, I don't like the total disregard for the effects those stories can have on people's lives, and I don't like the political slant.

More than any other branch of the media, newspapers are responsible for the perpetuation of racial steriotyping and prejudice.

They were also surprised to hear that men and women splitting into their own separate groups is the 'norm' at social gatherings too.  They've experienced it before a few years back (will explain later)

I've got loads of outside jobs to do today. Mrs Red (Bless her) made me a list.

I love outdoors stuff, but it's bloody freezing here. I just went to put on my jacket, and found it cowering at the back of the wardrobe.

Kizzy doesn't like getting out of bed when it's cold, and to make matters worse, she's having a bad hair day.

I have to go into Hinckley today. Now the question is, do I

A: Don my balaclava, gird up my loins, and go on the bike?

B: Wimp out and go in the car?

Personally, I'd wimp out.  However, the thought of a comical 'bike tale' upon your return forces me to vote for A.  Go on.  You know it makes sense.

That's easy for you to say young lady, but frostbitten nether regions do not have a funny side.
