Been reading your blog, and to be honest it's taking a while, must be kept more concise Wink

On a serious note, what I've read through so far has been a fantastic read, really enjoying it! Hopefully you keep it going, and good luck for the future against everyone except me Smiley

Oh my oh my, I love that SO much.

Trolls & faceless keyboard warriors are a total cancer on internet life, & a few more stories like this & they would not be quite so cocksure or brave.  Everyone should be accountable for their words & actions, but on the Intenet, it does not seem to work that way.

Some think an immediate apology makes it right. It does not. The internet is written in ink, not pencil, & once nonsense is thrown out there, it is there forever.

There should be a law which prohibits these tossers from ever using the internet. What would they do with their sad empty lives then? Something useful, maybe? Read a book, educate themselves, pay more attention to their families, exercise more, get a life, even?

First, let me make the mandatory disclaimers.

I love DTD.

I love music.

Right. Now that I've made that clear, let me tell you what I don't love.

I don't love music and DTD together.

How anyone could actually like having 8 hours of MTV,  (For the uninitiated that's  music television) blaring from a speaker just a few feet away from their head is totally beyond  me, but apparently, I'm in a minority of one.

It drives me absolutely nuts, but it doesn't seem to bother anyone else in the slightest.

I've tried asking the staff to turn it down, and they do, but 10 minutes later someone turns it up again.

I've tried talking to the management about it,  and in all honesty they couldn't have been more helpfu. For a while we had lower volume from the speakers over the cash tables, and no rap, grunge or heavy metal offerings from MTV.

Unfortunately, within a couple of days, things always return to the status quo. (No pun intended).

Anyway. I've come to the conclusion that it's me that's out of step, that the problem is entirely my own, and it's down to me to solve it.

I've tried ear plugs, but they don't work very well, (It's surprisingly difficult to block sound out) and I've looked into noise cancelling headphones, but apparently they're not really very good at blocking external noise when you don't actually have music playing through them.

The best solution I've found so far is an app that generates white noise type sounds which mask the music. At the moment I'm using the sound of an aeroplane in mid flight. That, and the muting effect of actually having the earphones in is the closest thing I've found to a solution so far.

Unless of course, someone out there knows of something better...

I can suggest something better, Tom.

Kerrang!

Less pap, more proper music.

Lol.

I actually like Kerrang. I also like custard, but I would prefer it if it wasn't forced into my mouth for 8 hours when I'm trying to concentrate on something else.

Would you prefer no music at all or is it just the type of music being played or plain and simple just too loud?

Joking aside, you make a fair point Tom, there is almost no public place these days where we are not forced to endure other people's music whether we like it or not.

The geezer who sold the idea to Supermarkets, Bars, Restaurants & the like must have been an absolute marketing genius, never did a shit idea do so well.

But really, it must be an age thing - few of the kids ever complain, they seem to readily accept the notion of being forced to listen, & obliged to try & enjoy other people's music of choice, which is strange for, on the whole, such an intolerant generation.

We have to accept it Tom, it is us, not them, that is out of step.

Dunno about Tom, but I love Music, but I want to choose what I listen to, when I listen to it, & at what volume. I loathe the idea of being forced to listen to music.

A problem is the location of the speakers.  Some seats have speakers directly overhead, so the music is going to be much louder there. When sat in other seats a distance from the speakers, it's much quieter.  A greater number of speakers at a lower volume would have worked better (imo).

Absolute 80s is the best music station that they play in DTD. Some of the MTV chart stuff that is played is probably the worst (but that's probably because of my age).

Absolute 80s is the station they play in DTD because it's the first radio station in the list on DAB radio. For a while they had lost the remote control, so they couldn't change it to anything else.

I would prefer no music at all. If I require it I, like most people, have music on my phone that I can listen to as and when I like.

If I must have it I would prefer it at a lower volume so that I can easily hear what the dealer and the other players are saying. (For the record, I hate rap. it sounds like two Welsh men having a row.)

I appreciate that DTD is a place of entertainment and as such probably needs to provide music, I just think it would be better if it was aimed more at the bar and gaming areas rather than over the poker tables.

Changing the subject quite considerably.

Just read an article on BBC about dads being present during child birth and how, in the past, they rarely attended if at all. I would never have dreamt of mssing the birth of my two and it's got me wondering why?

Yes, I can understand your view and feel the same but fortunately I'm able to switch off somehow. I think I can credit the wife for that ability Wink
