caught this article on bbc about starlings being the most invasive/successful of Shakespeare's birds in America since being introduced in 1890 by a German immigrant, Eugene Schieffelin. Interesting read. From fewer than 100 birds released into Central park there are now 200m starlings in the USA. Incredible. It is a fascinating read. The othe one above is a greenfinch (female) That female greenfinch currently has two potential suitors vying for her attention. I think they are a little immature as of yet though. So far their courtship routine consists of watching her from the shadows beneath a conifer tree, punching each other on the arm and giggling. |
