My grandfather Dan Rose was on okay snooker player in his time. One year, after beating his brother Alf in the final of some local tournament which he always referred to as "The War of The Roses", he got to play an exhibition game with the late great Joe Davis as part of the winning prize.

Now grandpa was a bit colour-blind and couldn't distinguish the green from the brown so he used to make a little chalk-mark on the brown in order to tell them apart during a game. Just thought I'd mention that..

Has anyone ever been to Liverpool as a tourist?

It's somewhere I've never been. The closest I got was buying a some Eaton two-speed axles from a lorry breakers in Birkenhead. An Eaton two speed weighs about half a ton and I put 20 of them on a 7.5 ton gross D series Ford and almost flattened it. Then I drove around a corner straight into the open arms of a traffic cop, but that's another story.

I've had a quick Google, Albert Dock looks nice, and there are plenty of museums, a couple of theatres, a ferry and even a beach somewhere.

Mrs Red is doing a food shop today. When she comes home I might ask her if she wants to pootle up there for a long weekend in the camper.

Not for a long time, but the Albert dock is nice. Aintree racecourse is beautiful to walk around if you can, too.

I did a few years ago - Albert Dock in general and the Maritime Museum based there in particular were definitely highlights. There's a bunch of Beatles stuff and a few churches but they were pretty miss-able if there wasn't time to just wander around.

I spent a few years in Liverpool, and really like the city. They've changed it a lot (for the better) since then though. Docks, Matthew St area all good, as are (as a strange recommendation from a heathen) the 2 cathedrals. The Anglican is a traditional massive cathedral & very impressive, the Catholic is an amazingly different building that you'll love or hate, I don't like it from the outside, but it's one of hte most peaceful awe inspiring buildings I've been in.

Near the Anglican cathedral is the Philharmonic Pub as well - worth a look, you can see how rich Liverpool used to be in the ornate work of the building, and as a treat for Mrs Red, the gents urinals area  listed building and tourist attraction, it's not unusual to be surprised mid flow as t were by a troop of tourists, with cameras taking pics of the ornate marble urinals.....

Cheers Tal, Jon, Rod.

For the record, I don't mind tourists photographing my ornate marbles.

I was worried about missing the odd tennis / football match while I'm away, so I downloaded the Sky wifi app and it's great!

It finds you a nearby cloud hotspot where you can park up and get free wifi. (Sky unlimited customers only) I just tested it out by watching Homes under the Hammer in the pub car park on my phone.

I'm made up.

Wednesday 25 June 2014.

Mrs Red does some last minute packing.

I'm excited. Not about going to Liverpool so much (although I'm sure it will be nice) but by the thought of being on the road and waking up to a different view.
