^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

My goodness, I do post some unintelligible gibberish sometimes.

I've just looked back at the last two posts and even I am struggling to understand them.

Talk about out of touch with reality. It would be funny if it wasn't so serious.

I don’t understand this post. The two that preceded it are perfectly fine.

The posts seem fine to me too.

I do like the idea that we may have spoken together at 4am in the distant past;  I suspect the conversation would have been short though.

Sometimes I look back at something I've written and think, "Blimey! That's a really clunky and awkward. I'm sure I could have explained it better".

I often muddy the waters by adding too much detail without being succinct.

Basically, my posts are longer when I don't have time to make them shorter.

Your auto trader story reminds me of similar getting up early at 3am at a train station to get a copy of the Times to see if i had passed my accountancy exams as they were published in there and you saw the results first there before the postman arrived in the morning.   Also buying the racing post at 5am to try to work out the best prices as soon as the betting shops/betting credit offices phone lines opened all prior to it being 247 online and oddschecker.com existed as a live up to date odds comparison site.

It would be amazing to go back to those times for a week just so we could appreciate how easy life it nowadays.

Like all 'progress', it's a double-edged sword arb. The internet has killed the motor trade and many other trades where a little specialist knowledge gave you an advantage.

Nowadays, when Joe Postlethwate from Staley Bridge wants to sell the old Transit van he hasn't used for a couple of years he can go on line and compare it to a dozen others to get a very accurate idea of the price, then, he can advertise it in a place where everyone in the world can see it.

Life might be easier now, but it's harder.

You have summed it up perfectly.   Less work but 'more' work to make the same money because every market is much more efficient.

That's right arb, although you and I live in completely different worlds, the obstacles are ostensibly the same.

Every industry has its own 'Amazon'.   bet365 in betting.   Spoons in pubs.   These huge out of town car supermarkets now selling a million cars a year at tiny margins.   Everything is super high volume and low margin.   You can only compete business wise by being the total opposite and offering bespoke high level service to people who value it.   Being stuck in the middle not competing on price or service just sends you skint.

I used to do landscaping and tree felling. When someone rang me for a quote I used to tell them,"My quote won't be the cheapest, in fact, it probably won't even be close, but I will stick to the price, do a proper job and you don't pay until you are satisfied".
