Won't be finished for a bit, as the tiles under the toilet can't be laid until the old one removed, I'm going to put a thin strip of board under those ones to support the weight of the new toilet while the adhesive sets.

Anyone had this message

Quote
Google has become aware that someone else knows your password, and we've taken steps to protect your account. Please sign back into your account now and choose a new password to secure your account.

It appears genuine, but as the email isn't a gmail account, I can't understand how they could possibly know this, unless there was a security leak on chrome as I did store that password on chrome (it's my account for registering for one off stuff I suspect will lead to loads of spam).  The pass was a two words and a number method, which presumably could be hacked by a dictionary method, but the email would be locked way before it was.

Anyone else had it?

hmmm found this on chrome settings

Warn you if passwords are exposed in a data breach
Chrome periodically checks your passwords against lists that have been published online. When doing this, your passwords and usernames are encrypted, so they can’t be read by anyone, including Google. When you sign in to your Google account, this feature is turned on.

This feature isn't actually activated, but the source of the warning does seem to be chrome browser.  Seems very iffy to me.

I think it is correct.  I get it when I use an old email and password combo that is still used on some sites that don't matter too much.  I don't get it using any other password/email combo.

The problem for me is that unless outlook or the chrome browser itself is the source of the data breach or I have some malware somewhere, I can't work out where the username password combo has been accessed.

The message you received - is not like anything I've had with Chrome, and Chrome does tell me about passwords being compromised

There's a chance you're just on an updated version of Chrome (or something like GMail has slightly different version)

But how it works on Chrome (at least how I've got it) is in settings/passwords - it shows all your saved usernames and passwords

If any are compromised there is a red triangle near the top which says "check passwords" and how many are compromised

When you click on that it shows you all the compromised passwords with an external link to the websites themselves where you can change your password

Except when it tells you your password is compromised - it doesn't mean someone definitely knows your username and password

What they do is monitor website security breaches. If a website gets compromised and passwords leaked - it flags every user of that website as having compromised passwords. So if a site has a billion users and a 100 passwords get hacked - all billion users would get notified that their password is compromised.

What you've described doesn't "exactly" match this - but it could be along those lines

If it had a link in the original email it obviously could still just be spam.

I think there was a hotmail/outlook breach a while ago. I changed my password because of that. If that was the reason they'd send out gazillions of these warnings, and they haven't, if a search of the last week is any guide. All very odd. I didn't click on anything, but hovering over any they links seemed genuine.

I don't have the feature activated on chrome, so probably wouldn't get the red triangle etc. I don't like that chrome has no master password, and only used it a bit more because firefox memory leak was a problem on a new laptop until I added some ram.

In films, when people travel, why are their suitcases obviously empty?

Same with their cups when they drink tea.

I saw this the other day; you'd almost think it was edited as they have got everything in it so wrong.  They have been a bit unlucky with Covid and the Ukraine, but a lot of it is just self inflicted wounds.

This made me smile, I drove 3.5 hours to the Norfolk Coast the other day and was pretty pleased to see some avocets as they are pretty rare, and I don't think I have seen them in the wild before.  I may have seen them many years ago, but not entirely sure.

Meanwhile a few miles down the road, https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-cambridgeshire-62494444.  To be fair, it is a bit easier to recognise an avocet than that.  I could have been walking past it every day for a fortnight and wouldn't think anything of it.

FWIW Avocets were smaller than I expected.

I sigh every time I think of the Ukraine.

How come so many Russian Presidents are mass murdering megalomaniacs?

I find it pretty depressing.  He has so much power, that it is pretty hard to stand up to him in Russia when he decides on these plans.   So even now, when it must be obvious that this is a complete balls up, they just carry on invading.  It can't even be strengthening his position?

Meanwhile we just plough on making our Brexit more Brexitty, and the criteria for policy decisions seems to be how Brexitty they are.
