I will download Merlin today and report back.

Mind you, there is a rookery in the tall trees at the bottom of the field and during the breeding season all you can hear is them arguing.

BTW- if you see a rook on its own, it's a crow, and if you see a flock of crows, they are rooks',

talking of golf, scottie sheffler, the best we've seen since tiger,  is 5 shots clear of the field with three holes to play and a weather delay. He can be backed at 1.04 on betfair.

You aren't backing whether he will win in the conventional sense, but actually that his wife won't go into labour (I suppose technically labor), before he can finish.

Will he really walk off the course if she does?

Just to switch sports for a moment, did anyone see the Forrest - Everton post match debate on Match of the Day 2? (It's available on BBC iPlayer)

Really fascinating viewing for a football nut like me.

I suppose it depends if he has started. He's down to 1.02 now, so I imagine he's at the course.

Warning!

If your Mrs is in labour, don't try the gas & air when she's not using it.

A Matron caught me doing that once and snatched it from me saying, "What do you think you are doing?"  I struggled to focus and replied, "It's very emotional and exciting".

Heard the Cuckoo yet Tom?

Trev!

I haven't l heard a cuckoo since you first asked me God knows how many years ago.

I think of you every time I don't hear one though.

We had a Cuckoo close by yesterday morning and again today

Need you to hear one, they must of been a regular during your younger days

Have you got the Merlin bird app

Great bit of tackle for bird song recognition, especially this time of the year

I got Teeks on it but he's more of a townie

Morning Mr Trevor.

Funnily enough, I was using Merlin last night.

I played Mickleover with three pals. It's a heavily wooded course with some lovely mature trees & bushery. We had a 10 minute wait on one tee whilst we let a speedy 2 ball through, & this was at about 7pm on THE most beautiful sunny spring evening. The birdsong was in full flow so I opened Merlin up & it snap identified 4 different varieties within seconds. Nothing exotic - Robins, Blackbirds, a Song Thrush & a chaffinch - but it gave me a real kick to be able to know what they were.

As a golfing experience it was a disaster - that's another story - but it was SUCH a perfect evening weather-wise, with glorious birdsong right across the course.

Hope to see you soon Trevor, it's been way too long since we had a knock. Mr Giblin (JAKALLY) invited me for a round a week or two ago & we drove down to Stoke Rochford GC on the A1 south of Grantham. Wow, it was SO lovely. I play with Moulty's crew at Breadsall Priory (Moorland) regularly) & yesterday I played with another crew - "JAC" & co - at Mickleover.

Yes I will be back on the golfing scene soon when and if it warms up a tad

Keep the Merlin going

Another Lego fact is that manufacture more tyres a year than any other company.

I always used to hear the cuckoo Trev. It was a stand-out moment for me because my grandad had a superstition that you should turn the change over in your pocket when you heard the first one of the year, he did it religiously and as a little boy I would copy him.

Although I'm not supertitious, (Touch wood) I continued to do ot long after my grandad's passing.

I always try to use cash, I can't be doing with all that tracking software knowing where I've been or what I've bought. (My daughter has advised me to buy a tinfoil hat)

My other daughter asked me if I find the change in my pocket annoying, but I tell her that I was born pre-decimal. I remember when there were 12 big pennies in a shilling, now represented by the 5p, a coin so tiny you could lose one in your eye.

In my day, you could batter someone senseless with 1/6 worth of coppers in a sock.
