Fold pre.. But now if you are "protecting" preflop by just flat calling, you need to get aggresive on any flop. This one is not the worst for you.

Fold Pre - In cases like this its probably better to try to send the "don't f with my blinds" message a couple of levels earlier while its cheap to do so.

Say you do want to defend for whatever reason with 58, would it be better to raise back at him preflop or to lead/cr on the flop?

Yes, defending your blind IMO is NOT calling a raise, thats called fishing.

Defending is sticking in a reraise there and then.

I don't think defending your blinds with crap, whether that be calling or raising, is the best way to combat LAG's. At this stage in the tournament you have just 11k...calling costs 800 of those chips and a decent re-raise 10xbb...either of which you can ill afford. Against a loose player you could find yourself faced with an all-in pre-flop, and if you see a flop, you will be going there with no hand, oop, against an aggressive oppo, who has you out-chipped. So there will be nothing going your way. I think it's better to trap these guys and put your chips in when you're a firm favourite. Using your chips to open pots is going to be a better gamble than this one imo.

As played I think he may c-bet too much to make CRAI efffective, or even go all-in himself. Whichever way, I don't want to go out playing 5-8 on a 7-9-J board.

i like a weak lead 3bet here. Fuck knows why ur in this pot with 58s after voluntarily calling 10% of ur stack off. But you got lucky so now get the chips in and hope he can fold 1010.
