The upturned boat created a vacuum which kept them dry. (put a tissue in a glass turn the glass upside down and submerge in water to test this)

Whenever I notice my breathing, it seems like I'm inhaling predominantly through one nostril. But both nostrils seem to take turns at being the dominant one. Do you like to take turns at being the dominant one?
Oh yeah, and the nostril thing - is it normal? And when do they switch over? I want to catch them at it. Thanks.

question one - no. the nostril thing I believe is normal, and they swap every 20 minutes or so.

Like when you wake up in the morning with a cold, 1 nostril clogged up with all sorts of minging sh*t, and 1 crystal clear depending on which way your head has lying...
