Is it possible to get the HH files from Poker Tracker 'blonde compliant'?  So get to be shown as 2 h instead? (without the space obv)

Yes.

Once in PT you can export the HH as a text file - it will then be displayed correctly

Is the only way to export via the Utilities menu then export to file?  I was after specific hands which I don't think I can get that way.   I was hoping there would be a setting so when you open the hh file as a text file it was ok from there.
