Any thoughts on what these bets mean?  I'm leaning towards them being strong with shortish stacks and weak when deeper, but that might be wrong.

I see a lot of bad players doing this with AA or KK.

It's like they feel they "have" to reraise but are terrified you'll pass.

Completely the opposite of the other numpties who are terrified you'll call and outdraw and so pummel about 50 BBs into the pot to get rid of you.

Also seen it a few times recently with TT, JJ.
Hands that the player knows are good ones, but is a bit nervous about overcommitting.

Against an unknown I generally call and see what develops on the flop.

So if both cases you have to pay another $500 with $2750 already in the pot?

You cant do anything other than call and assess on the flop even your near certain to be behind pre-flop...

Especially in the 2nd hand where your stack is double the size, and you have a stronger hand...

ldo

the main point is what do you think these bets mean in general - they used to mean a big hand (certainly in the 15-20 bbs range) but its happening far more frequently now.  It might be an anti-squeeze tactic when deepish with a hand that the 3 better want to see a flop.
