My grandad has been very unwell for sometime now - making it almost impossible for him to walk from one room to the other without stopping for breath at least twice.

He used to be so active, both in and out of work right up until a very old working age.

The whole family knew the enevitable would happen (he was given a few years to live - that was over 10 years ago, and has been getting steadily worse.

Well today he was taken to hospital after a fall - he had broke his shoulder and hand, but also had pneumonia . This was causing his blood pressure to fall to an extremely dangerous level. He has been given drugs, but they do not appear to be working in bringing his blood pressure up at all.

The doctors have given him hours to live and say if he arrests, they will not revive him.

I have just come home from the hospital , after spending most of the day there.
His condition is caused primarily due to smoking - he has blocked arteries and emphasema (?sp)

I look alot like him and seeing him there was like looking at myself in 20/30 years time. Not once did I want a cigarette the whole day, nor crave one.

As soon as I got in the car to drive home, what did I do? Yep, light up a ciggie.

I HAVE to quit!

My thoughts are with my Grandad - go in peace Grandad xx

Likewise with the best wishes.

I am on day 5 of giving up smoking at the mo. So far so good but not risked having a beer yet.

I'm sure if you gave up it would be a fitting tribute, best wishes...
