Afternoon all,

I posted recently that I had completed the round Jersey walk the other week (48 miles) which was pretty tough to be honest but it has got me thinking about going for another challange.

I am considering climbing Mount Kilimanjaro. To be honest its more of a hike than a climb. There is no actual climbing involved but its still an interesting challenge. Its about 15,000ft I think.

http://www.climbingkilimanjaro.com/

All being well and finances permitting for the trip I might give this a shot in 2009.

Anyone done anything similar (or even this)?

for 1k you get a tent a pair of boots and share a huge O2 cyclinder

for 24k you get all the cold weather gear as many sherpa's as you need with indivual O2 canisters

and more importantly a map and a radio with base camp

Price etc permitting then it could be a Blonde challenge !

That would be pretty cool actually as I would actually get motivated to do it.

I would even carry the cards & chips for the obligatory sng at the top.

That's an awesome idea. Do a SnG at the top.

Ok, this idea is starting to take shape. I really fancy doing this. Its basically a weeks trip to do it so I should be able to tie it in with a 2 week holiday to keep the missus happy.

The post was never meant to be about a Blonde challenge but if anyone is interested in doing this then a team effort would be a laugh and a sng at the top would almost make the effort worth while lol.

Would obv do it to try and raise some money for charity but cant think about that until dates and things are confirmed.

Its a long way off but obviously if it does come together i would post nearer the time, but if it ends up being a few of us doing it then we prob need to start thinking about it sooner rather than later to agree dates

Its not as daft an idea as it sounds, as i said its more of a hike than a climb but i think it would be a great experience.

If anyone is ineterested then either post or PM me.

I climbed Kili a couple of years ago.

It's 19000 ft and quite tough going, altitude sickness will affect everyone to a greater or lesser extent, playing an S'n'G at the top would be quite a challenge!!

We did as a two week thing and climbed Mt Meru first as an altitude acclimitisation (sp?) exercise which proved to be well worth the extra effort as the summit day on meru was physically more challenging than the one on Kilimanjaro, although the Kili one is more dependant on weather (we got quite lucky, the ones the day before us had -40 degrees wind chill to put up with).

Very GL to anyone taking part in this, it's a great experience.

I'd love to give it a bash.  One of my life goals is to go to Everest Base Camp, but this would be up there too.
