Is it the Grosvenor Grand Prix this weekend too?

Yup, but the numbers are stunningly low compared to normal, I'm led to believe.

A great shame - that was - maybe still is - the best comp on the Calendar, 10k chips, Pot-Limit, good clock & structure.

How many?

I heard 50, which I don't believe for a second, but I just have the feeling that it's relatively low this year, Blue Square have been adding "last-minute" Qualifiers daily.

I hope they get a good field, I really do, & then revert next year to the original format.

How many?ue - £25k added!u

I now gather from Lord Raab that the numbers are indeed very low, he doubts it will make 70, though he will let me know for deffo tomorrow.

Now that is SERIOUS value - 70-ish runners, & £25,000 added! What's that, about £350 per runner? Wow! That can't be right......but it is, unless my maths has gone comlpetely to pot.

Good Luck all the lucky buggers playing that beauty!

something has gone seriously wrong with the promo of it though

Luton ran no, zero, live sats to it (or perhaps they were available but got no runners) whereas in years gone past we'd send 25 runners there

no idea if its down to the individual clubs or Grosvenor itself, but marketing it on a shoe string in tough economic times and a very competitive environment (multiple mid range poker comps each weekend these days ) has not been a success...except for those who qualified (online primarily?) of course!

By those calculations, the players could all turn up, chop it and get the buy in for the DTD 300 tucked up LOL

So many good events all scheduled for the same weekend ... ffs when will people start working together instead of blindly competing and diluting fields for such quality events .. I mean, Birmingham, Walsall, and DTD ... its not as if they are at different ends of the country, madness !!

They tried something different, Live Sats all on the same night, etc, & it did not pan out quite as expected, that's all, I think.

I applaud their initaitive in trying to make it better, & more affordable, but it just did not work on this occasion. It's good that they tried though, & the added value remains on the Table.

I'm sure it will eventually re-invent itself in a better format.

of course. the added value is great. Lets hope the powers that be in Grosvenor perservere for 2009 and make changes where necessary to restore it to former glories

the years I played it, it was a 30 min queue to get in the building and the event was done over two flights of players!

those were the days

Or maybe people are actually saying they don't want the prizepools raked, and are standing up to it.

Possibly. I'd wager that the majority of players didn't realise/didn't care though.
