Hong Kong & Macau

Anyone been to either or both? I'm looking to go in Feb/March next year, basically because is the best value for flights on my airmiles.

I'll probably be going on my own, but I dont mind that because I can just do what I want when I want.

If anyone has any suggestions about what to do, where to stay, what sort of split to do between the two places I'd be grateful. I'm looking at somewhere around a 10 night trip. I dont mind mixing my stay up with some sluming it and paying a bit more where needed.

   I'am off to Hong Kong next sunday,been many times as i've got friends who work for Cathay Pacific,thier engineering department really is B.A in the sun.Stop on the island in Wanchai or Lang kwi fong,thats where the nightlife is.Wanchai is the red light area but it's not that seedy really and completely safe,i'd recommend the Wharney Guan Dong,you can get a room there for about £70 a night closer to the time of going and it's smack bang in the middle of some great bars.
   Hong Kong is a brilliant city,loads to see,go up the peak,take the Star ferry to Kowloon,go on that mental cable car up to the Buddah thing(scary ride)and definately have a night out at Happy Valley racetrack.The Star ferry does a harbour cruise every evening the views are spectacular if you ever get bored looking at that skyline you've got something wrong with you.
   I'am going to take a daytrip to Macau,last year i couldn't find any poker but it is now advertised in a couple of casinos so i'll do a little trip report if i get a game.The casinos are impressive but it's no Vegas just seems a little souless.
   You won't miss any of our beloved NUFC games either as every bar has the premiership matchs on,but go to the Dickens bar in the excelsior hotel and you have the added bonus of at least three lots of B.A hosties to letch at.

Nice. tyvm mate. I'm flirting with dates around the Man U home game - might be one to hide from anyway!

I know pokerstars have a poker room in one of the Macau casinos - open 24 hours at weekends and from 7pm during the week. I'll probably look to stay in the Holiday Inn in Macau and use some points to cut costs on that side of the trip.

My experience of BA cabin crew trolley dollies has them at an average age of a bout 45 but I think a trip to that bar would be required to check!

  lol at the ageing B.A girls,however it's a long trip and the ones with seniority don't want to take it and the rest love the place for the nightlife and shopping,however surlely it's about quantity over quality anyway.One bit of advice for anyone going to HKG take an old unlocked mobile with you and get a local sim from any newsagent £10 with get you almost unlimited local calls and 3 or 4 calls home,do not use your own mobile you get murdered for incoming/outgoing calls.I guess this is standard for any south east asian country but i had one bill for a fortnight trip which was more the my total yearly contract back home.
   If you do decide to go p.m. me closer to the date if you want a bar by bar guide,you won't regret a visit it is one of the best cities in the world.

Was in Hong Kong in the summer, fantastic city although the typhoon on the last day was a bit of a bummer!

   Gutted i never made Macau this year but the free days we had it was pretty windy and i'am not getting on that ferry in bad weather again you read about ferries going down in the south china sea i've seen why.HKG now has a legal poker club,something to do with Joe Hatcham i believe,but it was £100 membership fees so i threw my money away at happy valley races instead.
