Imagine, if you will, Ted Lowe saying this in his trademark gravelly voice:

Here we are, at the G Casino, Blackpool. The players have been called over to the tables (twice, the second time a little more agressively) and are currently undertaking the debagging, recounting, and restacking process. Currently joining us on the sidelines is Red-Dog, not playing today, but "chewing the fat" as he put it, although he won't be doing that for long as he's on a diet.

Play due to recommence soon.

Actually only 89 players have started today, as astute (or anal) counters of runners will have noticed.

Dan Hook has doubled up against Jason Shellum with A-J vs T-T. Hook, Line and Sinker puns coming later.

Gary Fisher has doubled through Alan Dean with A-K vs A-J.

First man out today is Alan Dean, and he was closely followed by Peter Jidne. With fellow short-stack Layne Newport pushing in preflop, Jidne shoved himself just one seat down. "You're in front," announced Newport dejectedly as he revealed . Jidne showed an ahead, but vulnerable . The flop added a few outs, one of which emerged on the turn. "That'll do," said Newport as he banged the table. An academic later and Jidne was gone, silently, but wearing an expression that clearly showed his disappointment.

After a good night's sleep, fresh fingers are always looking to push on the opening level of a Day 2, but not so today. There have been a couple of exits, but big hands have been unexpectedly few and far between. I did spot Pippa Flanders and William Martin clashing early doors. It wasn't a gargantuan pot, but big enough to see Flanders lead out for 20,000 on a three diamonds board. Martin folded reluctantly, and will have been relieved to have seen Flanders show A-J.

Jake Cody, who could easily be mistaken for a Scandie online pro with his trendy attire and swanky hair do, has just doubled up his starting stack. He was all in with kings v A-T and survived a ten high board.

The most intriguing hand I've witnessed thus far came courtesy of Jason Trey and hotly tipped Stuart Rutter. It all seemed relatively standard up until the river, Trey defending his big blind before checking down a board. On the three diamonds river, however, Trey opted to check-raise Rutter's bet of 11,000 to 29,600 all-in, subsequently leading to Rutter flailing his arms about in the air and sighing frustratedly.

"Ace king of diamonds then?" inquired the Old Edwardian. "I can only beat a bluff."

The verbal ambush didn't cease there though, as Rutter continued to probe his foe with more questions than an entire series of Parkinson.

"Will you show if I pass?" he continued. "I've got a made hand. I put you on ace king all the way, so it must be ace king of diamonds. It doesn't matter what I've got, he's either got the flush or nothing."

Sadly for Rutter, it was the latter, as upon passing, he was swiftly shown .

"I had a set of fives," claimed Rutter.

"Set of fives?" responded Trey in shock. "I couldn't have passed that."

Nevertheless, a brave Trey survived, smugly so, whilst Rutter was left to wallow in what was the most disgruntled and infuriated of expressions.
