I'm flying on monday to New York via Chicago, and trying to find out how much baggage I can take in KG, it says on the Expedia website 32KG, but the article is over 2 years old, seems an awful lot, no?

What airline you going with? The info should be on their website.

I'm guessing it might be AA if you are going to Chicago:

This seems to suggest two bags checked - each to a maximum of 23kg. i.e. 46kg total. That's bloody good!

Its with BMI, but booked through Exepdia, seems the same on the BMI website too, 23KG, but you can take 2 bags, cheers...
