My G1 arrived today.  Oh yes, I like.

Not even started using it really, but already searching through the apps to download to improve it.

Stumped me for a while lol, but Apple have actually listened, all we need now is Flash and Video Capture, but they have to keep something back for the next update. I would say it is now leading the market again ...... was pissed that the G1 came out after I had signed my contract but happier now.

- Introduction of subscription based apps
- In App Purchases available for paid ones, not free
- Using Bluetooth technology, you can connect with other iPhones to share data, it automatically identifies running apps and creates an IP connection. (lots of potential)
- FM transmitter - the iPhone running 3.0 can have a custom app that auto-discovers the best frequency and tunes the transmitter
- All new Push, allows new apps like Meebo (IM Service) that works with - MSN, AOL, Facebook etc but does not always need the app running, e.g you can get messaged if someone adds you as a friend or contacts you while leaving your phone in another application.
- Able to Recieve instant updates - e.g News, sports headlines... With Custom Sounds
- New media player will automatically adjust video bitrate depending on how much bandwidth you have (e.g 3G,Edge coverage)
- 1st Game, New Socializing game called 'Pets' - You create a virtual pet, push comes into play where it alerts you someone has interacted with your pet and in app purchases is where you can buy clothes for your pet (big potential, small details at the moment)
- 2nd Game - First Person shooter 'LiveFire' , over wifi connecting to global server - Push/ Inviting People to Game and App Purchases/ Buy Weapons
- Cut, Copy and Paste - Very advanced and well done!
- MMS !!! [Not for OLD 2G iPhone]
- Stock - Business News Stories and Extra Stock Details
- Mail, Calender, Notes and iPod - Search available
- iPod - Shake to Shuffle
- Notes - All your notes Sync with PC or Mac
- Stereo Bluetooth
- Support for Youtube Accounts and Subscriptions
- Safari Password Login Manager

Does the iPhone have a camera?

Well, yes it does, but a pretty dire one for the price of the phone.

As for the rest of the update list, apart from all the apps store stuff, it sounds more and more like my N95 - in fact, any decent mobile under 3 years old.... All this update does is bring it a little more in line with any other phone available, instead of being dismally lacking in many areas.

And as for cut copy and paste being very advanced... LOL! this has been on my last 3 phones! (I'm assuming many others too, not just nokia's)

It still isn't good enough to even tempt my to change my mind, it still is nothing special IMO.

I love the G1, and its open-sourceness (new word).  I hate being tied down to proprietary stuff, and I think this is the strong point of the G1.  Oh, and you can copy, cut and paste as well Wink.

The iphone is good (ldo), but just not my cup of tea.

What's better, and why?

  • G1
  • Nokia 5800
  • Samsung Pixon

I will use my phone as a Walkman, to browse the net and to take pictures...but I don't know which one to choose! I'm leaning towards the Samsung atm...

I've had the G1 for two days.  I'm so glad I chose to get it.  But I'm sure the other phones you mentioned will do what you want.  Horses for courses.

I have had the G1 for weeks now and it is just wasted on me. The mapping system has come in handy when the sat nav screwed up a couple of times, managed that ok. It is my own fault, I have never been a textbook learner, much prefer to be shown. Being as I do not know anyone else that is a tad impossible.

BTW Kin, can you really cut and pastes?. I can not even fathom how to go back a page, lol.
