Replace Memphis with Chicago.

Great sports town and imo the best city in the USA.

Yeah you are right I did the north east of the Us and Canada in April/May. You are not going many places I did Toronto and NYC, how long are you giving yourselves to do this? I refused to drive more than about 200ish miles in a day but that was a personal choice, as I wanted to not be stuck in the car all day.

I am not sure if any of you are over 25 but they charge a premium for insurance on car rentals for under 25's, so you might want to check that out. Think our car rental company wanted $25 a day or something, but you are ballas so probs won't care.

If you are going to NYC I would recommend doing the hour journey down to Philly, south street is a really cool place to go for a night out in Philly. Pittsburgh I only spent one night and didn't go to Mount Washington (looks like we missed out). Just went out drinking in Pittsburgh which is apparantly what it does best.

I am not sure how much you care about spending money on hotels, but www.priceline.com and www.hotwire.com are brilliant for getting cheap 3-4 star hotels. We paid about $45 on average per night between the 2 of us to stay in some pretty decent hotels. If you want a beginners guide how to use these sites, send me a pm as they work on a bidding process.

Dana just said to me that Kansas City is a huge craphole. Recommends Memphis instead.

Indeed, Nashville, Memphis, Wichita (via Tulsa, without stopping!) and up into Colorado for me.

Did my trip over 20 years ago!

ty's have taken these on board, new route:

http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=Toronto,+ON,+Canada&daddr=New+York,+NY,+USA+to:Mount+Washington,+pittsburgh+to:Clingmans+Dome+along+the+Appalachian+Trail+in+Great+Smoky+Mountains+National+Park+to:Nashville,+TN,+USA+to:Memphis,+Tennessee,+USA+to:Wichita,+KS,+USA+to:Estes+Park,+Colorado,+USA+to:4050+Red+Rock+Loop+Road,+Sedona,+AZ+86336,+United+States+%28Red+Rock+State+Park%29+to:Las+Vegas,+NV,+USA&geocode=%3B%3B%3BFTKmHgId_ugF-yHpYiaThrcMwA%3B%3B%3B%3B%3B%3B&hl=en&mra=ls&sll=38.487995,-105.128174&sspn=7.977882,16.160889&ie=UTF8&ll=37.544577,-93.076172&spn=32.150464,64.643555&z=5

Plan on approximately 3 hours driving for every 200 miles.  That's going 70mph on clear highways.  Add more time if there's traffic.  (I used to drive round trip from NYC to Cleveland a lot.)

I thought the national speed limit was 55.

It pays to know people.  Relations of cops are given a wee badge to show other cops if they're pulled over.  Wink  Still have it, but not much good over here.

It's not much good for anything serious, but as long as it's just a wee misdemeanour it's a polite way of saying, 'Give us a break' and out of respect for their fellow officer - they do.

The Lads won't be in too much trouble as long as they don't do crazy speeds as the paperwork would be insane and they're foreign tourists.

You have to be a blood relation or spouse of the police officer.  I've a good few relations who are either firemen or policemen so it wasn't a problem.
