The Hyypiator is off to Bayer Leverkusen at the end of the season after 10 years at Liverpool.

Unfortunately until recent seasons he's always been in a side he's way better than and had he been in a dominant Liverpool side I'm sure he'd be right up there with Hansen, Lawrenson and Hughes as one of Liverpool's greatest ever defenders.

At £2.5 million he's surely our greatest ever pound for pound signing and will be missed massively. I hope to see him as a coach at the club in future because the guy is a born winner who never let the game's superstar strikers get the better of him, especially in Europe - never let losing the captaincy affect his game and never feared or compained about the new defenders brought in.

The total professional. I'm gutted to see him go.

Great player but not the best p4p player imo...

I think C Ronaldo is. Then there are players like Carrick, Lennon and many more that I cannot be bothered to mention. ;-)

I offer up, for the princely sum of £1MM, the King - Eric Cantona

(Hyppia has been one of the few at Anfield that would have got into the United team over the past 10 years, although that was before we found Rio and Vidic (and Evans and Brown))

Yes, they were Liverpool signings... Roll Eyes

Anyway, yes I agree - our best P4P signing in the past 20 years.  Definitely a legend at the club, and he deserves a testimonial (against Finland would be my choice, he could play a half for each side).  Hope he comes back in a coaching capacity in a few years.  He can teach the kids how to head a ball properly.

I'd have loved to see Hyypia at Forest.  He would be one player that we certainly could do with for next season in the championship.

He deserves great credit for his performances overall in a Liverpool shirt, ultra reliable and yes, an absolute bargain for what you paid for him.

Obv that must be some sort of in-joke.

As for Sami, what a fucking ledge. As has been mentioned in here already a truly great professional and just a super super player, him and Henchoz were v good then Carra slotted in aswel.
And i loved his foray's into the box for corners also he has pulled out a few crackers and importantant goals in his time. I  seem to recall he was dancing his way around Marseilles defenders before slotting home (uefa cup) any of you Pool fans able to dig that goal out?(Yes I'm talking to you Kinboshi).Oh and i don't see  many players these days who play with a permanent smile on their chops like big Sami does!

Biggest regret for me has to be that he ain't gonna be able to add a prem league medal to his haul, i was hoping he could hang in there for a couple more seasons and hopefully we would be able to get him a medal but alas no.

Oh well GG Sami .................YOUR THE MAN!
