I think that Rod should sit on Ralph at the BB until he admits that diving is wrong and should be clamped down on :-)

It was a dive, no excuse for it imo, but let's be honest, it didn't affect the game in any way. It's over and done with now.

If UEFA deem it to be bad enough then they can ban him for 2 games, so we will see what happens.

Diving or "simulation" is a yellow card offense. What's the justification for calling for a ban?  O

Every team has a player that has done this - Celtic fans might recall Chris Sutton spending most of his time falling over in the box - yet only Arsenal it seems to me are subject to such exaggerated levels of criticism.  There is no way you can stop diving, it's become an instinctive reaction for too many players who get breathed on in the penalty area.  Unless you just want to do away with penalties altogether so there's nothing to win and just have free-kicks instead where defenses can put up a wall just like any other free-kick.

UEFA rules state that a player caught simulating or diving can / will be banned for 2 games.

I know but what's the justification for that when during it the game it's a yellow card?  Would UEFA ban a guy for two games if the referee hadn't seen him take his shirt off while celebrating a goal?

don't think there is scope for that in the rules after the event tbh, there is for simulation tho.

Andy Gray talking yesterday said it's hard for UEFA to give out bans for diving as you can give a free kick for intent. Contact doesn't have to be made. If you leap out of a challenge that would be a foul to protect yourself it can still be given as a foul.
I think this was a dive but i think it gives divers an excuse to turn around and say i was getting out the way.

Getting out of the way would be over or round.

I'm sorry to say this and I really am not trying to inflame the situation but this has been taken to ridiculous proportions and is sounding more and more like a severe case of sour grapes from not just the bhoys but the media in general.

Okay it was a dubious penalty but we see several of these every week and apart from boldie nobody sees it as a hanging offence.

The guy(Eduardo) has just come back after an appalling injury kept him out for eighteen months at the peak of his powers and if he was reluctant to make contact with a hulking great goalkeeper twice his size bearing down on him, who can blame him.

We won 5-1 on aggregate completely outplaying the opposition who incidentally tried quite hard imo to outphysicalize us(kick us off the pitch) in the first leg which was perceived as our Achilles heel and nobody is even mentioning that.

Build a bridge guys, get over it and stop getting wound up by the media would be my advice.

Ralph you are talking some amount of nonsense here. Arsenal were better than us and deserved to go through, almost every Celtic fan has said so on this thread.
Eduardo dived and cheated to win the pen, how anyone can say otherwise is beyond me. If you can't be objective about your team theres no point debating with you.

Time to lighten this thread up with a bit of comedy.

All the Arsenal fans I know are admitting it was a dive. The grin after he got up said everything.

Arsenal used to get hammered by the media for the number of red cards they got but their fans didn't give a sh*t because they were winning every week and they knew the media who support Spurs/Man U/West Ham were clutching at straws as Arsenal were unstoppable.

Same applies here imho. Dont let the dive overshadow a good win. You were winning the tie regardless so let's call it how it was and say it was a dive.
