Spain could have a fantastic version of mean machine if they got tough on this.

To be honest, I think the goalkeeper is the most undervalued position both on the pitch and in terms of transfer fees. A number of points top class goalies win their side each season is massive. I think he's a very good bit of business by Everton.

I'm not convinced that it was brilliant business. These next-big-thing youngster keepers come along fairly regularly but they ALL go through a patch of making a glut of mistakes, and subsequently panned in the media. And it's how they come through this (or not) that will make or break them.

For £15m I bet they could have landed tried-and-tested Joe Hart and had the best years of his career, which for a keeper are usually in the 30s.

In Spain it is mandatory for players to have a minimum release clause in their contract, so I guess having a 1bn euro min release fee is a way of not having one even when you're forced to have one.

All those hours rifled off on footy manager really paying off in this thread.

I don't doubt that a good goalie can be as important as a star striker.

Sadly though the good goalies that win you championships and save you a shed load of points also have a lot to be thankful for of great midfielders and excellent defenders.

Additionally, most folk don't get excited by going to see a worldy in goals.

I just think a £30 million package for a guy who has proven nothing for a club like Everton is insane.  I think if you take the £30 million figure this makes him their most expensive signing.

Another blunder, Pickford really has been a comedy of errors.

Could be worse though.  Those two Spaniards De Gea and Arrizabalaga.
