Gonna be living in Oz and then New Zealand for the first 4 months of 2010 then probs Vegas and who knows after that.
Not sure how much online poker i am gonna play during that time but i need a new lappy where i can effectively play 9-14 tables. Been told i need one with a high resolution of 1920x1200. What else do i need? Ideally needs to be pretty light and as cheap as poss although expecting it will be quite costly. I am crap at this stuff and any advice/links will be a great help. Cheers

1920x1200, light and cheap are all mutually exclusive.

Some options:

Dell M1730 17". Has full 1920x1200. From £900 delivered.

Dell Studio 17. 17.3" 1920x1080. How important are those 120 pixels to you? From £680 delivered.

Acer Aspire 8935G. 18.4" 1920x1080. £950.

HP 8730w. 17" 1920x1200. A workstation more than a laptop. £1500ish.

And just in case you bink a big one before you go: Lenovo W700ds. 1920x1200 PLUS 1368x768. Dual screen laptop.

HTH.

Whereabouts in Oz and NZ? Me and Dan Carter are going to Oz on the 28th and staying there for a month before traveling to NZ.

Since when did Dell own Alienware??

That's really annoyed me as I use to love Alienware stuff but now I just see them as mass produced stuff like Dell products are.

over 3 years ago. manufacturing-wise, they still operate seperately from the other dell products.

Probs don't need the power of an Alienware just for poker and net.
Consider a usb/wireless mouse, as the mouse pads on lappys are slow and awkward

Yeah i was not too happy but still got the Dell "Alienware" XPS, would not recommend the powerfull ones for lugging around travelling though. It's heavy and 1hr battery life.

The Dell M1730 17" that Longines mentioned has a 9-cell 85WHr Li-Ion Battery. WTF does that mean and how long will that last if i am playing 10 ish tables?

I reckon you'd get between 2 and 3 hours if you have the screen brightness at a sensible level.

I've recently bought a 12-cell 96Whr battery from eBay for the kids' HP laptop. Tools like BatteryMon and BatteryBar report it's actually capable of storing 142Whr. It easily lasts 5 hours+.

EDIT: what it means is the battery can deliver 142 watts for one hour. Or 71 watts for two hours etc. etc. The bigger the number, the longer the laptop can run.
