Mega siiiiiiigh. Just read a ton of reviews on the lappy above and most obv wank off over the picture quality etc but all slate the it because its weighs a ton, its very big and the battery is shit. I know you said that high res and light etc are not mutally exclusive but i really dunno what to do. I dont mind some overlap and am comfortable playing mini sized tables. maybe i should opt for something in between? lighter, smaller but with an ok res?

Dell M1730 17". Has full 1920x1200. From £900 delivered.

Ive got the xps m1530 with that screen and its been fine, battery life is not great though but there is an option for a better battery.

The Acer I mentioned on page 1 looks like it would last 3 to 5 hours playing poker.

Question for you sir.  I had a quick look at the Studio 17, and it doesn't have the WUXGA screen (or whatever my 1920x1200 screen is on my Vostro), but some true-life mutlittouch something or another.  Do you know if the screen it has is any good, as the rest of the spec looks decent to me?

Just had a look, and the option is for a 17.3” 900p (HD+) TrueLife WLED Multi Touch panel

I'm now looking at this, but what does this mean???

I'd suggest it's 17.3" 1600 x 900.

TrueLife appears to mean "a bit brighter than normal".

The weird bit is "Multi Touch" - that's akin to the two-finger zoom on iPhones, a technology which I didn't think had reached notebook screens yet. You can get it in desktop monitors at a price.

I'd phone them and ask if they have any clue what it is. Personally I think their product description copywriters have been at the chrimbo brandy.

I am also looking at new laptops... I'm sure that when I first looked at the link put up by longines, the LCD option did actually state 1920 x 1080.
Dell quite often change their options based on component stock levels etc. If you really want the "new" Studio 17 with a 1920 x 1080 then phoning and discussing it with a sales bod may well get one.

Alternatively, the "old" Studio 17 can be ordered with a 1920x1200 LCD.

fk it, just brought the old dell 17 you mentioned for £650 with the 1920x1200, hope it does the job. Thanks for all your advice, cheers
