Going through the IMDB Top 250 is a great way of watching films you might otherwise dismiss. I spent 7 years doing a 90 minute each-way train commute, and tried to watch as many as possible. When I stopped in 2007, I think I had about 8 left on the list, generally that I couldn't get from Lovefilm. You have to have a very open mind - I would never have thought I'd enjoy silent films, and indeed I didn't enjoy some of them - Metropolis would be a good example - but The General - a Buster Keaton silent film from 1926, is just superb. Would never ever have watched that without the motivation of it being on that list. Ditto for many of the subtitled foreign language films. City of God, or Das Boot, for instance, amazing films.

Of course looking through the list now, there's about 30 released since 2007, of which I've seen about 10, which is depressing!

I'll check out the silent films but would be surprised if I like them. The problem with the foreign films with subtitles is I'll be watching these after a days grind so I watch films in bed and I can't read the subtitles from my bed as my eyesight is terrible so I'd have to just watch it in my chair which I'd rather get out of after sitting in it for twelve hours. Speaking of my eyesight I really should look to sort that out, I had an eye test a few years ago and they said I only really needed them for reading, I was pretty surprised even then as my eyesight wasn't great and I think it's deteriorated quite a bit since then; at this point I'm close to blind in one eye, think even then I could only read the top two lines and that's about it.

Happy days, the US Office is back after the Xmas break, this programme is so close to being my absolute favourite, really love it. It's so much better than the UK version. I've never really been to keen on Ricky Gervais, he just comes across like too much of a twat too often for my liking but I have to admit some of the stuff he does is very good. I've never watched any of his stand up though, think watching him loving himself for an hour+ would just be too much. I've never got round to watching the Carl Pilkington thing where he travels around the world but will watch that at some point. Listened to a few of the podcast that them two plus Steve Merchant did and always thought Gervais came across as the least funniest of the three, he's not done half bad for himself though has he, Americans absolutely love him as well, nice life.

I remember being really pleasantly surprised by the first seasons of the US office after what was a disastrous pilot. Don't really watch much TV anymore so not up to date but think the show really benefited from having time to develop the characters.

This said... the UK office is, in my opinion, one of the most brilliant series ever made - certainly up there with Partridge for my favourite ever show. It's just so beautifully crafted. Not a word, moment or scene is wasted. I must have watched the episodes tens of times and still every time there is something new that raises a smile or makes me think, "God that's good". Gervais/Merchant just seem in complete control of the emotions of the viewing public and script accordingly.

I didn't watch the UK office until last year as like I mentioned I've never been keen on Gervais so I faded it. I was suprised to find it was hilarious though. I just think the US office is at that same level and possibly better and has achieved it over a much greater span. As you say the characters have really developed and it's what makes the show, that and the fact there's like a million writers plus an input from Gervais/Merchant I believe ?

I've taken the place in Jesmond, room is spot on with a big enough bed and already has a desk. It is in a good location as well. I didn't meet any of the other people sharing but since it's on a months rolling basis I just went and took it.

Here's pics of the place, the 6th picture is my room but there's now a desk there ajoined to the wardrobe

I told the landlord that I want another line put in for the internet as I'm not going to grind on a shared wireless network of course. I will pay for the new line so he's ringing Virgin up today to arrange when that can be done then I will move in once that's all sorted out.

So it seems it's "technically impossible" to have two lines in one place ? News to me. Instead we are getting fibre optics installed and can get 100meg, didn't even know you could go that high, I thought 50 was the max. Pretty sure 100 should be suffice. It's getting put in on Friday and I'm moving in then.

Just got skyped that James Sudworth just tweeted this :

the entire world seems to have crashed... Thousands of websites/services like MSN/poker sites have just crashed... WTF?

Anyone else having problems or have a clue what is going on ? I can't get on 2+2 either but blonde/yahoo/bbc and ninja/hem/skype all working fine here.

Yes, my internet was working fine though, as I said it wasn't a problem with my internet.

Lost $1047.72 today partly because of this, GREAT.
