I went to a club in Mayfair this weekend and our first round of drinks was £615. When I paid it on my card, our Polish hostess said 'and what about my tip?'

I wouldn't have minded if she asked in a cheeky way or said something like 'and you can buy me a drink' or 'dont forget me' but the direct asking for money shit didn't sit well with me and [  ] she got tipped at the end of the night.

lol what did you expect - she obv pegged u for a mug.

What a clown you never even asked him how many people were in the round and what the round was, Most clubs will have a min spend  per table of £500 for 6-8 people and with the table you will get  vodka, Rum brandy fruit juice and some mixes, so imo stick to your happy hour down the local and let people spend money how they want

After making an utter fool out of yourself in your Rush Poker thread, I would have thought you would have resisted the urge to do it again.

Just gtfo.  Dunno who you are or why you wanted an argument today but happy to have one off forum if u wanna just keep going on and on

just have a heads up match forr 1k$

I use to really enjoying reading blonde, but why, recently, does every thread end with petty, crap arguments?

Because they're a bunch of petty ************

I inserted my own stars because I've been told off before for accusing people of having a low IQ.

Seriously pathetic.

A few years back I used to run a restaurant in Hampstead.
Every few months a little old lady used to come in alone and always the first thing she did was give a fiver to the waitress and invited the staff to visit her home.!
Always guaranteed first class service, because she was a certain Lady Armstrong who owned Bamburgh Castle in Northumberland.  Cheesy

Is dealing really a minimum wage job as seems to be assumed on this thread..? I was under the impression it paid better than that. What does a dealer typically earn at a licensed card room?

IF  you tip who does money go to ?

just the dealer on ft
all Dealers that comp
or all staff employed

How does it get shared out ?

I remember being put in postion by another player in Blackpool a few yrs bk. We had made the final table, and he decided it would be good of us to tip the waitress 600 between , i think 4 of us, ffs Daz had been fetching my drinks and when he didn't I was tipping, needless to say I rarely tip them too much now in case I have to do it again. Plus i was only up about 800 at the time.  Is that classed as tight too?

Don't know how they work it in the UK, but tips are pooled at big events in Ireland.  At least down my direction they are.  Dealers, reg desk and cash desk staff all get a cut.  Not sure of who else gets a share, but deffo those three groups do.  Usually amounts to 1/3 - 1/2 of what our actual wages were for the week-end...so a nice wee bonus.

Seems to me there's various problems with tipping dealers in poker that make it such a minefield, but the basic issue is that the tips sought are not based on a bill or a fee, and therefore bear no necessary relation to the service provided - so any comparisons with tipping elsewhere aren't really valid.

When you take a taxi or go to a restaurant, there is a correlation between greater service (longer journey, more food and wine ordered) and a higher bill. You tip your 15% or whatever on that bill, and therefore a higher tip will also tend to reflect a greater service rendered.

The comparable bill in poker would obviously be the tournament registration fee or the rake, which similarly bear a relation to the service provided, so I would think you could make a good case for basing tips on these charges.

As it is, of course, tips are based on prizes won - which don't necessarily have any effect on the dealers. If I'm a dealer and happy to work for £10 an hour for five hours, it makes no difference to me whether the players are playing for 20 quid or for 20 grand - my job's the same. So if I'd be happy with a £10 tip in the first game, why would I expect hundreds or thousands in tips from the second game? The danger is that this isn't about tipping at all - it's actually just seeing someone else with lots of money and wanting some of it.
