Hey Suze,
Does that mean your giving up poker alltogether or just live poker? You can play very very small on-line so as long as you find it fun there's no reason to stop playing on-line.
I play very rarely live and my live tournament record is poor but I enjoy it and will continue to make sure I play live occasionally.
Not everyone makes money at this game and definately not all the people that post on here. As long you enjoy the game then theres no reason to give it up completely.

I dont play live wardonkey, played my first live game at p4c event and really enjoyed it. What im saying is that im in that 85% who continually deposits and although I never play more than I can afford i need to admit that I am always going to be a loser where poker is concerned. Im not aggresive enough and although I try after 4 years of playing online I dont think im going to get any better. So im now giving perplux city a go...its much cheaper :-)

is this not just mensa's version of pannini football stickers? Spend tens of thousands of pounds on cards continually getting Bryan Robson when the two you are missing are Arnold Murhen and Remi Moses to complete your collection?

I was thinking about something similar earlier. Not quiting poker but about the "playing 6 months then winning a major event" phenominon. for every1 person that makes it to a TV table or festival final table there's hundreds or even thousands who are dead money and getting nowhere. I started playing in home games 5 years ago, online about 3 years ago and live nearly two and I feel like my game is getting strong enough to move up to bigger games and be a serious contender. I don't believe I truly started learning the game until I started playing live tourneys. I come across many players who I know for a fact are less experienced and significantly worse players than me who are putting their money into monthly biggies and festivals they have no realistic chance of winning. I also know of players who are considerably better and more experienced than me grinding out a living at lower buy in games and online.
I think the big danger with the current poker boom is the fairy tale promise of big $$$$$ wins after playing 6 months, when in reality there's no substitute for putting in the hours at the tables and learning your craft. there are guys that are doing well live and online. I don't believe they're doing well live directly because of their online experience. I think they're different skills and, while it's obviously possible to be good at both, It's also very likely that many people are good at one without being good at the other.
I see lots of people turn up for their first low buy in live game and final or even win (myself included) but mostly it's because they're so nervous and so determined not to make an ass of themselves that they play super tight aggressive and when regular players think they can take advantage of the new players they end up paying off the newbies big hands. as players get more relaxed they play more hands, fearing embarressment less and results often slide.
Don't quit because after 6 months you haven't made a major event final table. It may take you months or years to even crack your local £20 rebuy final table. if you're only playing with dispossable income then losing every time is still good experience if you're breaking down the key hands that knocked you out and not making the same mistakes too often.
People say you can play more hands online than live so you can learn faster but what if the experience gained from a live hand was worth 10 times that gained from an online hand (or more 50x / 100x / etc). Put in the hours and learn from every hand you play and don't worry if everyone else seems to be winning ranking events. a good work ethic in anything will usually pay off in the long run

I think you could be right Matt. I actually bought this for my sons Christmas and decided we could share it, wish I hadn't started it now as it is extremely addictive. I can forsee many hours dredging through ebay to find that ellusive card lol
Tikey, you wouldn't get rid of me that easy
I have not been playing very well lately and last night was the last straw. I couldn't make the $ in any of the stts I played. One mtt got my AK busted with AA out 30th paying out at 27, the second one was worse, all I had to do was sit tight and I was guarenteed to make the $, on the BB and ive got AA...every fibre of me was screaming don't play it...so I see the flop with one caller which is 8 high rainbow, went allin and mateyboy has 88. I was more disgusted at the way I played it...anyway, today is another day and I shall do as has been suggested and stick to freeroles/small stake games and try to find time to read some of the poker books I have gathering dust
Was just about to post when I saw your reply Adam
I am not deluding myself into thinking I would ever be a world class player nor would I want to be but I seem to be getting WORSE the more I play and its THAT which I find frustrating. Hopefully one day it will all click into place and I will turn the corner. My thinking last night was that there are natural born good players and I obviously am not one of them. So do I keep plodding along and hope to improve which presumable in time I would or do I go back to cross stitching and catching up on the soaps
