Boldie's requirements were an automatic, diesel, 4-seater plus, cheap to service and run, not a merc or beemer that'd suit a giant german hippy. Also has to be in his price range.

Didn't leave a great number of options!

I know Sad Not really my requirements as such though...If it was up to me I'd buy something completely unreasonable Smiley

although the older bmw and mercs are now pretty cheap to own, you still need to factor in' the running costs. Servicing is still going to be pretty pricey, as are other 'wear and tear' items, like brakes, tyres etc. (A set of 4 pads and discs for the front will set you back around 500 quid on a c-class merc) You can make this aa good bit cheaper by knowing a good indepedant mechanic,, preferably somebody who specialises in your type of car

Yeah, that's what I found.

I have a top class mechanic who can also source cheap parts but as soon as you hear a clonkin noise from somewhere you still shit yourself. Wheelbearings that need replaced (A very common issue on Mercs, I found Sad ) and all that stuff will still set you back £130-160 a pop (Second hand, including labour)

I reckon I'll go with Boshi's recommendation and get a Saab Smiley
