How common is it to have cash in play on the table at a casino?

50p/£1 game, that was already running when I sat down and I'd guess there was c£2,000 in play with more than half of that being in notes. I sat for maybe 5 hours and everybody who sat after me, or added to their stack did so in cash.

Is there a valid reason for this?

It was very hard to see how deep people were playing, what are the other impacts?

this is one of MY MASSIVE PET HATES in live poker.

Also, I have played in games where I have seen people cheat because of this, people hide cards under the notes its pretty easy.

JUST STOP IT - THEN THIS WONT BE A PROBLEM!!!

i personally prefer to have all chips on the table so stack sizes are always visible and confusion can be avoided. However i do like sitting with 50's on the table lol

It seems to be pretty standard practice to allow money on the table in Vegas.  Can be difficult to know how much people are playing, especially if they have several 100-dollar bills under their chips.

If busy, it's not always possible to get around and change up all of the cash into notes. It's generally done as soon as possible in my experience; whilst in the mean time I am sure you could simply ask how much cash they have in front of them.

Vegas its fine as its 100's only, i would have no problem if it was 50's only here but i hate card rooms where they let you sit with a stupid combination of notes.
