Just looking for some advice. No idea if it is as simple as this but what %age increase in pay would you expect for a role in London compared to the rest of the UK.
Think I've worded that horribly.
If your job was relocated to London from anywhere else in the UK forgetting moving costs etc what percentage pay increase would you expect.

This is likely way off the mark now as its been a long time since I had a 'proper' job, but 6 years ago when I worked for Aviva, £14k job paid £16.5k in London and people that relocated in similar positions got somewhere between 2-2.5k extra cost of living increase.

So whatever that percentage is, if of course you work for Aviva, and its 2005

When i relocated from Bath to London in April 2008 my pay went from £17,000 to c.£24,000 i had a bit more responsibility in the new job but I was doing much the same job.

Each £1k is equivelent to about £50 a month extra takehome, the pay increase just about covered the increase in rent and travel costs, spmething to keep in mind.

would depend on a number of factors - which company, inner or outer london etc.  my old (westminster) office opened up a new office in manchester a couple of years back and everyone up there was on the same salary.  i'd be surprised if the average increase in pay would cover the % increase in living expenses though, but that's just a hunch.

also it's probably not as simple as comparing 'average' wages in parts of the UK, as the london average will be artifically inflated by high flying city jobs etc.

This

Apart from a few specific jobs, the way to make the London weighting work is to commute in from somewhere cheap, but all that time spent travelling every day really starts to grind after a while.
