This weather is nothing to when I was a child, no central heating, no synthetic materials to keep out the cold and wet. The winter of 1947 was the worst I can remember, I was very young and had chilblains on my hands and toes so bad I cried with the pain.

Argie Terrace. I'm right at the top of the hill by the one stop and can see people attempting to come up it Smiley

Halfords said an additional 16,600 sledges were being shipped in to meet increased demands.

16,599 of the sledges were fine but one kept banging on about Breaking Bad, climate change, tennis and Linux and was sent back to the factory to be melted down, as defective

  you missed out Blur.

...
    * Rail firm Southeastern said at least three of its trains travelling from London to Kent were stuck for around five hours overnight, stranding about 60 passengers, who have now been taken off the trains. Train services are still severely affected.
...

I avoided overnight yesterday, but my Southeastern train got stuck at Robertsbridge
so they added another 4 coaches to push the original 4 it was formed of

it then got stuck a few miles down the track - for nearly 4 hours, before they decided they couldn't make it over the brow of the hill so they were going to send the train back to Robertsbridge

which they couldn't do, because all the power went - including the emergency power

Eventually they sent another 8 carriage train for everyone to walk through to, which took all of 3 minutes to get back to the station we'd left well over 4 hours previously.

Coupled with the delays I had at the beginning of the day, I was out of my house for 16 hours - and 11 of those hours were spent travelling (or stuck trying to travel)

I'm working from home today Grin
