I know you shouldn't give 'charity' (I don't exactly see this as that) to make you feel good, which obviously wasn't my motive, but damn it does make you feel good to help people who not only need it, but deserve it.

If it makes you feel good giving people money perhaps you could send some my way.

I don't necessarily need it but I'm pretty sure I deserve it.

It'd be awful if you spunked it up the wall on your jollies in sunny Ibiza and then couldn't make yourself feel good by giving me some when you got back.

This has reminded me of a wonderful time I once had.

When I was in Mauritius on my weddingmoon I got close to our bar staff, had loads of jokes with them and they did far more than they should of/had to for us. One guy in particular did everything, real nice guy but never really got involved with the banter or that. I asked about him and one of the others told me he is from a poor family so he lives at the hotel permanently and sends all his wages back to his wife and kids, so he didnt want to mess about with us incase he got sacked. This guy was so attentive, It literally got to the point where I had to ask him to stop trying to light my cigarette as I felt kind of embarassed. One night it was late and as usual he had kept the bar open for the 6 of us in my party, he was real happy and smiling and told us that it was his daughter's first birthday and he had gotten to speak to his family on the phone and he was looking forward to going to see them in a few weeks. On hearing this, I organised a little whip round of my group, it was like 13,000 ruppees which worked out at like £40 odd per person for the 6 of us. I gave it to him and said get your daughter something nice for her birthday. He took the money and his eyes welled up, he shook athe guys hands and hugged the girls and then brought us a round of 2 drinks each (we were AI anyway, but nice gesture). It turns out for someone who is fed and roomed at the hotel this is approx 2.5 months wages. One of the happiest moments of my life. Which is weird as I hate giving to charity.

Also the year before last on around January 14th a Xmas card came through the letter box and guess who it was from! I emailed the hotel asking if I could have his address or email or whatever. They said they would pass my details on, but I haven't heard anything back. Wanna get him and his family over here. so he can make me some drinks and light my cigs.

Excellent. I'll start making plans of how I can spunk it up the wall.

Yeh that's pretty cool man. I've never been one for giving to charities but mainly because I've always heard people saying 'meh most gets swallowed up on admin costs etc' and so whilst I do give to charities, it's never been a big sum or anything. I much prefer giving money directly which is something it's easier to do in Asia - as long as you're careful.

In Thailand you get quite a few kids selling stuff at night - even in bars and club type places that really the kids shouldn't be. It feels bad to not give them any money but the more you give them, the more their parents make them not have a childhood and work.

word of warning Matt. (you prob already know) 4-5 days basically translates as 4-5 months. Cos is always 110% good for money and trust etc its just a matter of when and not if. Enjoy the chase! Smiley

Never doubted the trust thing. That's why I've already waited 4-5 months.

I'm going to start to enjoy myself by issuing subtle reminders and digs at every available opportunity. (See above)

You currently owe me money fish! Don't you forget it.

But yes, Amatay was a legend in Thailand. Several bar girl's families wouldn't have got fed via me if it wasn't for his wallet
