In a bit of a pre-Vegas lull. Playing smaller, being nittier - just to calm myself before the storm. Feel like I've taken a pretty aggressive approach to bankroll management over the last 2 years, and at times (especially when I was staking a lot) very aggressive.
I feel like my income over the past 2/3 years has suffered massively because of shot-taking, and whilst I can't pinpoint a single tournament, trip or series that I feel was silly, I feel overall that the strategy has been slightly too high risk.
From October-March through a combination of playing, staking, and other things, I lost around £40k of my bankroll, which was a pretty big blow and left me in a position I really didn't want to be in. Being a lucky git I landed on my feet and got very lucky that month and binked a nice score to get me out of it. But feeling underrolled for my regular games is something I never want to happen again.
And that has massively influenced my Vegas strategy. I want to be able to brick the entire series and run bad in cash, and still come home comfortably rolled for 1/2 and my normal schedule online. I'll be selecting smaller-field, lower buyin tournaments where the edges are bigger and the variance lower, so that the chances of me having a winning trip are higher (this is important to me specifically over other less emotional players because I recognise my weakness in mental fortitude when losing) whilst still being worth making the trip out there.
Yeh I'm not going to come home a millionaire, which others might, but the most important thing in this world is
survival
and I need to be in a strong position to make money from July onwards, and not throw the dice quite so hard as is tempting in Vegas.

Run normally in the 2/5 at Venetian and I imagine you will probably come out in front even if you do brick the comps?
I'm actually intending my trip this year to be a grinding trip, as opposed to the last 3 years where I've just bowled into Vegas with a bagful of cash, and pretty much no plan other than to spray it about...
Actually budgeting this year, separating my money into cash/tourney/spending roll and going to try freerolling my MTTs with 1/2 profits. Remains to be seen how that works out, but should be interesting to see what happens and hopefully I won't knock it right in.
Bit of luck I don't come back like this
Good luck anyway mate and with a bit of luck there is some Blonde gold in Vegas!!

What do you consider a really good and safe roll for the 1/2 and your normal schedule? I know it plays deeper than 1/2 online and I know mtts are pretty high variance.
Also how do you put profits of your roll into savings etc? I think the Tom high thread made a lot of people think strategically abut actually doing stuff with money they win rather than living in and with their bankroll.

Alex, what sort of tournament schedule are you looking at? Is it WSOP events only, Carnivale tournaments, Venetians, etc?
What sort of work ethic vs holidaying will you have?

I think for the 1/2 I'd feel short with 10k but it would be adequate. £20k comfortable. The games get so big, really common to have a game with everyone 1k+ deep, and not uncommon to have everyone 2k deep, so you obviously need quite a lot if you want to sit that deep and with £10k that just wouldn't be possible.
For online, my sunday schedule is about 3k, other days 1k. Every sunday is probably a bit of a shot - I couldn't play a 3k schedule every day. But my abi is 60euros, so having a 500 abi roll seems enough. I play it by ear really though. If I bricked two sundays in a row, I'd drop down next week. It all depends how I'm doing really. I grind loads of satellites, even for like 100 freezeouts, which helps reduce the damage considerably, think that's really important.
As far as savings go, it's been a while since I had the luxury of being able to take a chunk out of my roll for savings. When I heatered massively in October, I gave a chunk to charity, and increased my staking exposure. Then everything went to shit and I've been rebuilding really since then and am almost back to where I was.
If I get to the point where I feel very overrolled for my regular games, rather than moving up I will put more into savings.

Gonna focus on Venetians I think. Really like the $600, $1k comps there. Can win $40/50k in two days for a small outlay, great structure, great casino and very soft.
Probs 2/3 WSOP events max. The Rio 235s sound quite fun, not heard of carnivale tournaments, what're they?

rio 235 are turbo bants
venetian tournies are just much better value for the 400-1.6ks relative to the rio wsop 1k 1.5ks imo.
great food to the tables, nicer place, better location on strip.

I love the Palazzo, it's my favourite strip resort and also the best card room in Vegas too.
Bit of a stretch for me to be flicking in 4/600 every day, so have to roll with the old grizzled soldiers downtown
