Can think of 1000 more unethical things to do at a poker table than that.

I'm going out for dinner now so can't really get into this now. I'll ask my mates and see what they think. Until you mentioned it, it never even crossed my mind as being immoral and you're the only person that has said anything so far.

If you pointed out he would be better off choosing to play in other games and he still wanted to then why not, though as has been said playing online seems like a much better way of doing it if you want to play hu.

Not really sure how this is unethical? Surely if he asks if he wants to play some HU online and discuss the HHs (not still paying an hourly). If he agrees and thinks he can hold his own then it's fine, no-one has a gun to his head, it's just playing a mate HU and agreeing to discuss hands afterwards. This guy isn't just starting out in poker, so he's not just exploiting someone who hasn't already spend a long time playing the game and feels confident enough to sit with £3k in from of him in live cash games. If they guy could hold his own and not lose more than he would for coaching then it would be a good way of discussing HHs getting points of view about how hands are played from both sides of the table.

I think it is borderline ethics wise and to make a solid judgement you really need to hear the conversation between the 2 imo.
What I didn't like was the way Alex put it across on here, pretty much bragging about what a great spot it was fleecing his student. I think this is pretty unprofessional when the guy is effectively your customer. Certainly if I was the student and read that it would make me feel uncomfortable about our business relationship and it doesn't promote yourself very well if you wanted to coach others.
Pretty much hoping I got levelled here, cos it don't look good imo.

Summed up my thoughts perfectly! Calling him the spot was what really irked me and why I posted
Really poor form esp the way you told it

Longy's post is pretty good.
If the guy is paying Alex for lessons, then he knows Alex is better than him, so Alex doesn't need to explain to the guy that it's not an EV spot for him. He knows this already.
The tone of the post where it's like he's your prey is a bit poor, but Guy, no need to make such a big deal of it and question Alex's morals. That's pretty lol too.

Ah ok, yes I get what you mean with this. Not sure i'd be openly talking about players being good value to get out of a hole from etc (although we all think along those lines regularly). Nothing wrong with the suggestion I made though?
Are you playing le deepstack this wkend mr.Goulder?
