Jeez I'm wide awake again after one hours sleep :/
OK here goes-
DAY THREE Awake at 6am, I head to the pool to enjoy the cool desert heat, and 2 games of OFC on the go vs championship regs Fred and Nik. Pretty nice way to start a day. Order breakfast - yum.
Run pretty golden at OFC and go for a dip in the Jacuzzi feeling very happy with life. At 8am decide it's time for proper work and walk to the Venetian. By 830am we're in a 2/5 game and play there until 3pm.
I'm up $500 early doors, then lose chunks, including one hand where I misread a flop for 456 and call with 33, turn is a 2 so I thought I had a straight, called again. The river is a Q and he bets $280, I realise just in time that the board is 5562Q, then decide to hero call anyway
I lose to AA, but I defo just fold the flop if I read it properly. Can't remember that ever happening before. Pretty stupid.
I'm down $1k and then this hand takes place.
Limp $5, Villain overlimps in MP. Btn $30. Me $100 with QQ from sb. 2 folds. Villain $300!
I'd gone three days without the dreaded limp/raise and here it finally was. Faijsdlajsklnadlkfjaskldj GTFO.
It's the easiest fold ever, but I heard that they do this with AK and 88 etc these days and just wanna punish people that limp/raise soooo much so was just like fk you, allin for $1150.
He rechecks his cards, and says "call". I'm pretty fucked I know here. I say "You got Aces?" and he ignores me. I HATE this. It seems common over here. Why are you ignoring me? You're going to turn your hand over at the end regardless (people never lose with AA quietly), so just do me the common courtesy of at least answering my question. You don't have to turn them over, just say "yes mate you're in the shit here, I got dem".
Anyway, pure absolute justice is service on the 995Q4 board. I snap turn my hand over on the turn instinctively (they'd remain stoned faced until they HAVE to turn their hand over, for no reason whatsoever) and he flips is aces in disgust at their loss. SO PURE.
So I'm out of it, and feel great. I was feeling great all session anyway, just quietly grinding away (had a 20 minute degen blackjack "break" with stato with mixed results).
At 3pm I headed to the Rio to see everyone and i wanted to play this $235 deepstack, that gets like 1k runners, and 40k + up top and is over in a day. Sounded sick!
Absolutely loved it. The field was just full of really friendly recreational players who were there to have a good time and have a gamble. The atmosphere was great, no-one taking it too seriously, some amazing characters and the structure was really quick, the whole thing was just so much fun.
The reaction to the bubble bursting was like that when the main event burble bursts (according to ESPN footage...). High-fiving, cheering, clapping, texting friends etc. Was great!
There was a pretty funny hand with 19 left, where I guy had 60,500 chips and was in the big blind for 60,000 so had 500 back. And he wanted the ladder from 19th to 18th so badly (it was $400 I think) that he folded hoping someone would bust on one of the other two tables. They didn't, poor chap!
I was pretty short and just grinded 8-20 bbs for hours. A LOT of things went my way. For example:
- with 14 left, shove 12bbs on the btn with J7s. Sb folds, bb chip leader tank folds AQ face up.
- allin with 85s, called by K9, flopped basically dead but backdoor a flush.
- First hand of FT, allin with T4s, called and beat KQ
- every allin on the FT was won by the bigger stack, laddered so well - was probably 8/8, 7/7, 6/6, 5/5 and 4/4.
Funnily enough, hit some cards 4 handed and chipped up to 2/4, then chipped down losing 2 allins in standard spots to bust 4th.
Good for $13k and change, pretty sweet for $235!
Morale insanely high now, what a dream start to the trip.
News on others: Stato and Deadman both cashed but busted the 3k yesterday. Mitch won a $10k pot on cash (something about running something three times and winning all three, standard). Keith losing afaik. It's his birthday today. No poker planned
