Did indeed - thanks for the tip.

£60 down for the week - I'll take that. Losses mostly due to a couple of bus driver heinzs the first couple of days.

I'll be generous and say that Leo just didn't have the cruising speed, but it was eating up the ground and crossed the line the freshest looking horse, if only it was more in touch from 3 out it would have pissed it.

Had a really good first day, Hurricane Fly was by far my biggest bet of the meeting ew @ 5/1.

Day two: My banker Time For Rupert got stuffed after he apparantly bled but First Lieutenant got my money back plus a small profit. I picked a couple more decent priced winners @ 10/1 and 14/1 with my pin for the tipping comp. but disciplined me didn't back them, grrrr.

Day three: This was just a bad day but I cut my losses and pulled in my horns after my main bet Wishfull Thinking got well turned-over after looking like the winner two out in the first race. I managed to abstain from the rest of what looked like a trappy card and for the first time this year felt once more that the festival had been diluted by stretching it to four days.

Day four was no good either as my banker and second biggest bet of the festival Imperial Commander seemed to "go wrong" after travelling like a winner at the top of the hill (traded for a few ££ @ 2.8 on BF) and I had a couple of other fancies too which also finished in the outhouse, however I managed to bink BH's tipping contest mainly down to having a red-hot pin on day two which will have got me out of it for the day.

Ended up about a monkey in front overall.

I'm happy and about to light a Montecristo#4 to go with my Hine cognac.

God I love Cheltenham.

I think it depends when he had the bet.

If he did it weeks ago or just before the first race I have no problem with it.

If he had the bet when he knew Binocular was a non runner but every one else thought there was no problem, then that's a different story altogther.

Really? If Wenger or Ferguson had a bet on them ending the season trophyless would you feel the same?
If he had the bet weeks ago I think it's wrong and stupid, not the worst thing in the world but not something I think he should be doing.
If I bet on the team i support to lose because it will make me feel better if we do I understand that but I don't think anyone that is responsible for making them win should see any positive in them losing.

The bet may not be shady but for the sake of integrity it's a ridic bet. A sport like horse racing which has constant rumours about how bent it is doesn't need one its own trainers betting against himself.

Say he put the bet on a day before the festival and it's the last race and his horse is looking good ftw and lo and behold it somehow finishes second after looking odds on to win and this bet comes to light- what would people say then?

Sports betting has to be whiter than white imo

Presumably those criticising Henderson also have a problem with football clubs that take out insurance on them not making Europe, winning the league or promotion.  It is a bet to win sixteen grand.  Training one Cheltenham winner is worth that to any trainer so not as though he is going to have any financial incentive.  As Keith says, he had placed the bet when the public didn't know about Binocular that would be a different matter but no evidence of this.
